Mimic Farming
Mimic farming refers to using the Stocking Mimic familiar in order to produce large quantities of meat while adventuring. The reason to use this familiar is because it has a natural weight cap of 100, and drops pure meat based off weight.
The formula for meat per adventure from just the mimic
Meat Per Adventure = 10.68 * Weight - 245.31
Stocking Mimic Basics
- ActionRate: A Stocking Mimic has 1 in 3 chance of acting at all in each of the first ten rounds of combat.
- MeatRate: A Stocking Mimic has a 1 in 4 chance of producing meat during the first ten rounds of combat
- Drop: A Stocking Mimic will produce A(weight+B) meat, where A is a random number from 3 to 5, and B is a random number from 1 to 3.
- HappyHolidayBonus: A Stocking Mimic has a 20% chance of doubling the effectiveness of any action. (Thus every five times the familiar drops meat, we expect one time to be twice as much.)
The expected drop each round is ActionRate*MeatRate*Drop*HappyHolidayBonus. Assuming the combat lasts 10 rounds, then 10 times this will average out to 408 meat per adventure. (Essentially, the 10-round combat limit, meat rate, action rate, and bonus all cancel each other out.)
ActionRate
There are only a few items that affect how often the familiar acts. The increase in meat is:
Modifier's Action Rate * 3
- Jingle Jangle Jingle is a Turtle Tamer buff that increases action rate by 11%, and will increase meat by 33%.
- Stickler for Promptness is a potion that increases action rate by 20%, and will increase meat by 60%
- Loathing Legion helicopter is familiar equipment that increases action by 25%, and will increase meat by 75%.
- All 3 will increase the action rate by 56.1%, which will increase meat by 168.3%.
Both the buff and helicopter have one-item investment costs that will take a long time to earn back (10 million and 32 million respectively). It is possible to also obtain the buff from other sources, but needs a low cost to break even.
The potion can be obtained 3 times per day, but at the opportunity cost of other items. The potion will add 73 meat per pound over its duration (or 7300 for a 100-pound familiar). If you can obtain the potion in the mall, divide the price by 73 to get how heavy your familiar must be to break even.
Familiar Weight
Every 5 pounds of familiar weight you can add will add 28 meat per adventure. You can determine whether or not its worth adding on a familiar weight effect as
Added Weight * Duration * (28-47)
- Irradiated pet snacks, for example, give a rather meager 560 additional meat for the lifespan of the effect. Given their rarity and price in the mall, they are a poor choice.
- Knob Goblin pet-buffing spray gives 280 additional meat, and costs 250, which makes it marginally useful.
- The familiar.enq rollover buff can give (at full-strength) 28000 additional meat, with the only expense being opportunity cost.
Increasing the Action Rate can obviously make things more cost-effective, but not by much. Which no modifiers, use 28 in the formula above. If all 3 modifiers are active, then use 47.
Bag of Many Confections
The Stocking Stuffer has a freely obtainable familiar equipment that allows it to drop candy roughly 1 out of every 6 adventures. While two are unremarkable, Polka Pops sell for over 5,700 in the mall. This can rival the increase in meat from the helicopter, but does require a mall store to make money, and requires waiting for the Polka Pops to sell.
Standard
Note that this familiar, as well as all three items that modify frequency, are not in standard. Thus any investments made in these items cannot be used in current challenge paths or current ascensions.
Analysis
Using the Mimic is an alternative to a Leprechaun, and has the advantage of being usable in any location, not just an area with meaty monsters, but really only applicable if you already have the familiar, the helicopter, and other cheap sources of familiar weight bonuses.
