In about 90 rounds fighting the BASIC elemental, I haven't been able to recieve the effect. Maybe the bugged bugbear is the best best (that's a lot of "b"'s). Could someone under a muscle sign check it out?--GoldS 10:46, 13 March 2007 (CDT)

  • I tried the bugged bugbear, but I didn't get anything. That said, my stats were too high to be hit by anything other than a crit, so I have very few (maybe three or four) data points. Someone at a lower level, perhaps?--Buttons 10:50, 13 March 2007 (CDT)
    • Tried again, beaten up. Got hit fifteen times, and still nothing.--Buttons 10:55, 13 March 2007 (CDT)
      • hm... have you tried furry suit and beaten up together? that would increase the # of hits you get. Also, if you're a TT, you can use Hero of the Half shell status, because furry suit doesn't affect muscle...--CG1:t,c,e 12:29, 13 March 2007 (CDT)
        • I'm in hardcore with limited resources right now, so Furry Suit wasn't an option. Nevertheless, I tried some more. Got hit twenty-five or so times, and still no effect. I'm thinking it comes from somewhere else.--Buttons 13:55, 13 March 2007 (CDT)

try the quantum mechanic. --mLegion 03:25, 14 March 2007 (CDT)

  • No luck there. How about The Temporal Bandit? Rebrane 12:15, 14 March 2007 (CDT)
    • I doubt that it comes from an ultra rare monster...--CG1:t,c,e 12:41, 14 March 2007 (CDT)

Someone in /valhalla just noticed they had the effect, and they said they had only been adventuring in Menagerie, Level 1, so it's looking like the BASIC Elemental after all, even though it's resisting directed attempts to acquire it. --rholliday 14:56, 15 March 2007 (CDT)

  • Ugh. Just tried to get it from the BASIC elemental again. I tried letting it hit me, attacking it with a melee weapon, using a spell on it, using a ranged weapon on it, using items on it, running away from it. 300 rounds of nothing. I'm out of ideas.--GoldS 15:48, 15 March 2007 (CDT)

Random idea: it occurs when you reach 30 turns of combat with the elemental. --Starwed 09:13, 19 March 2007 (CDT)

  • I tried that while spading, and didn't seem to get it. Lemee try again.EDIT: Nope. --RPGMarker35 14:49, 20 March 2007 (CDT)

My $0.02

According to one of the radio shows (March 8th, IIRC), Jick implied that this would come from the BASIC Elemental, and said that it was originally going to be "just a mysticality debuff." However, I suggested a different idea for how it'd work (a somewhat difficult-to-code idea, admittedly), and Jick seemed to like it, so my guess is it just hasn't been implemented yet. Also, FWIW, I've noticed the "it GOTOs you in the [part]" hit message seems to be missing - my guess is that it's been replaced with whatever message that would give you this status effect.--Hogulus 08:09, 19 March 2007 (CDT)

  • Makes sense to me, seeing as the way to an infinite loop in a program is for a GOTO statement to refer back to a previous line, then it follows the program up to the point of the GOTO statement, goes back up, etc ad nauseum. I just got enough moxie for the menagerie, once I beat the friars quest, I'll probably head there. I'll let y'all know if I find anything out. --Jimfromtx 02:19, 22 March 2007 (CDT)

Yet two cents more

I have done a number of adventures using every combination of things I can think of to try to elicit this effect from the BASIC elemental, including everything suggested here, as well as other methods to reduce my stats (candy, potions, effects, etc.), letting it kill me, etc. I also tried using the Huge Mirror Shard and Antique Hand Mirror (alone and in combo) to see if "reflection" could elicit the effect. Nothing has worked. Happy to try any other suggestions. --Mis2027 15:26, 14 June 2007 (CDT)

Another $.02

Unfortuately I was just cherry farming with mafia, but noticed one adventure in the Violet Fog after fighting a BASIC Elemental. Wearing the Bounty-Hunting Rig, item drop acc's, and a Flaming Gravy Fairy w/Mayflower and farming buffs. I'll see if I can reproduce it with enhanced logging on.--Stanley 08:38, 7 January 2008 (CST)
