Flavour of Magic

Flavour of Magic

Type: Noncombat
MP Cost: 1

This spell will allow you to bring your mystical being in line with the elemental forces that underly all things: earth, wind, fire, water, and heart. Wait, I mean hot, cold, sleaze, stench, and spookiness. And what's the deal with 'heart' anyway? How does that make any sense at all?

Source: Guild Trainer
Price: 12,500 Meat
Class: Pastamancer
Level: 14
Effect: Forces pasta spells (not sauce ones) to have a single element of choosing. Also adds +10 Spell Damage for all spells.

Obtaining this skill gives the player five elemental spells that show up in the skills menu:

  • Spirit of Cayenne (hot damage)
  • Spirit of Peppermint (cold damage)
  • Spirit of Garlic (stench damage)
  • Spirit of Wormwood (spooky damage)
  • Spirit of Bacon Grease (sleaze damage)

You will also gain access to Spirit of Nothing which will remove any of the above spells.

Notes

  • Despite the in-game description, this skill is not a noncombat skill itself but offers the five elemental noncombat skills noted above.
  • As intrinsic effects, the Naughty Sorceress can not strip these effects from you.
  • The bonus damage to all spells, including sauceror spells, was added with NS13.
  • This skill causes Weapon of the Pastalord to do half elemental damage and half physical damage.
  • Does not change the element of Fearful Fettucini. The bonus spell damage still applies, however.
  • An elemental cookbook (such as Gazpacho's Glacial Grimoire) will trump the elemental effect. This skill itself effectively gives the same effect as an elemental cookbook for the cost of 1 MP, though.
  • Casting one of the Spirit skills while having one of a different element active will replace the former with the recently-cast.
  • Attempting to cast Flavour of Magic directly (via remote form submission) instead of one of the five castable skills it grants you results in the message "That doesn't make any sense. Also, congratulations for wasting MP."

References

  • The elemental forces mentioned are a reference to Captain Planet and the Planeteers. The powers that combined to form Captain Planet were, in order, Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart; the phrase "And what's the deal with 'heart' anyway?" refers to the fact that the fifth element, Heart, is often ridiculed.
    • Notice that the 5 elements are not listed in the "correct" order in the skill description. Perhaps the order they are in is a result of wanting "Earth, Wind, and Fire" to be in that order.
  • The name of the skill is a reference to the first Discworld novel, The Colour of Magic. This is why the British spelling is used.
