knight You're fighting a knight

You walk up to the knight, whose shield depicts the head of a deadly-looking coiled snake.

"What are you doing here?" he says. "Are you here to impugn the dignity of these maidens? Have at you, then!"

Before you can respond, you're locked in combat. Well, not really locked, so much as... engaged.

Hit Message(s):

He bonks you on the head with the hilt of his sword. Ooh! Ugh! Ouch! Ow! Oof! Ow!

He slices open your <leg> with his swift sword. Oof! Ow! Ugh! Argh! Ugh! Eek!

He bashes you in the <leg> with his shield, leaving the imprint of a snake ear. Ow! Ugh! Ouch! Ugh! Oof! Oof!

Critical Hit Message:

The knight bends over and whispers something into the grass. A huge, ghostly black snake emerges from nowhere, slithers up to you, and bites you in the head. It's as horrifying as it is painful. Ow! Ugh! Ooh! Argh! Oof! Ooh! (spooky damage)

Miss Message(s):

He tries to hit you with his sword, but it's neither terrible nor swift enough to do any damage.

He rushes at you with his sword, but you knock his visor closed and he charges into a nearby tree, instead.

He swings his sword at you in a wide arc, but you go off on a tangent and he misses.

Fumble Message:

The knight rushes toward you, but stops at the last minute and doubles over with laughter. You ask him what's so funny, but he's laughing too hard to answer you. (FUMBLE!)

After Combat
You acquire an item: serpentine sword (5.6% chance)*
You acquire an item: snake shield (5.4% chance)*
You gain 28-29 <substat>.

Occurs at The Haunted Gallery by selecting "The second knight" in the adventure Out in the Garden.
