How does Mariachi Memory affect the cap? Can we now hold 7 songs in our head?

[ Return to Game Mechanics ]

All Accordion Thief buffs count as songs. The song cap, which is normally 3, prevents additional songs from being played on you (and prevents you from using recordings) unless the number of songs you have active is less than that cap.

Cap-Increasing Equipment

The following equipment will allow you to keep 4 songs in your head instead of 3.

The following equipment will allow you to keep an extra song in your head. (These effects stack with the above and each other and can raise the cap to 6.)

Cap-Increasing Skills

Cap-Bypassing Items

Some items, see list below, grant random beneficial effects, including Accordion Thief song buffs. With these items additional songs can be acquired regardless of your song cap. And once acquired, the duration of those songs can be extended by any of the usual ways.

Item Use method Buff duration
chaos popcorn food 5 adv
ittah bittah hookah familiar equipment 6 adv
Knob Göblin lòve potion potion 4 adv

Note that all of these items select from a set of hundreds of different buffs, most of which are not songs.

Cap Reset

After any change in equipment or familiar, if you have more active songs than allowed, the ones with the least number of turns left will be removed, with one of the following messages, chosen at random.

<song name> doesn't appear to be stuck in your head any more. Damn earworms.
