References
- Gingham, as used in this shirt, is a fabric made from dyed cotton yarn.
- The phrase "don't know what gingham is" may be taken from a Bill Hicks routine, in which he simultaneously plays Jack Palance from Shane and a Sheepherder. As Jack Palance is threatening the Sheepherder, the Sheepherder says "Mister, I don't want no trouble. I just came downtown here to get some hard rock candy for my kids, some gingham for my wife. I don't even know what gingham is, but she goes through about ten rolls a week of that stuff. I ain't looking for no trouble, Mister." The full joke can be seen here near the bottom of the page.
