You walk up to the knight, whose shield depicts the head of a deadly-looking coiled snake.
"What are you doing here?" he says. "Are you here to impugn the dignity of these maidens? Have at you, then!"
Before you can respond, you're locked in combat. Well, not really locked, so much as... engaged.
Hit Message(s):
He slices open your <eye> with his swift sword. Ow! Ugh! Ugh! Ow! Ugh! Ouch!
The knight bends over and whispers something into the grass. A huge, ghostly black snake emerges from nowhere, slithers up to you, and bites you in the head. It's as horrifying as it is painful. Ugh! Ouch! Oof! (spooky damage)
He tries to hit you with his sword, but it's neither terrible nor swift enough to do any damage.
He rushes at you with his sword, but you knock his visor closed and he charges into a nearby tree, instead.
The knight rushes toward you, but stops at the last minute and doubles over with laughter. You ask him what's so funny, but he's laughing too hard to answer you.
He swings his sword at you in a wide arc, but you go off on a tangent and he misses.

With tattered snake standard:
As you step into the painting toward the knight, his eyes light up at the sight of the tattered standard. "Where did you find that? I lost it ages ago! Thank you for retrieving it.
I have no gold with which to repay you, but I can teach you a battle technique that I learned long ago from a wise and powerful shaman.
He taught me how to commune with the spirits of dead animals, you see. I use it on snakes, personally, but you can use it on any animal you'd like."
You're not sure what "gold" is, but you gladly accept the training.
You gain a skill: Spectral Snapper
