Ancient protector spirit and Protector Spectre elemental damage & vulnerability

Some monsters are resistant to physical damage. Physical attacks inflict reduced damage to these enemies, often reduced to a single point of damage. Spells and elemental damage apply normally, except in the cases where the monster also has Elemental Resistance.

Strategy

  • Use a scroll of ancient forbidden unspeakable evil; incurs instant victory.
  • Chronic Indigestion. As long as you can eat, you can always obtain this skill by eating an insanely spicy enchanted bean burrito. Because this spell does hot damage, it works very well against all five physically resistant monsters, as they receive double damage from hot attacks. Boozetafarians and oxygenarians can only use this skill if they make it permanent on a previous run; however, the effectiveness of this ability is greatly reduced if you cannot eat. At 15 fullness, chronic indigestion does 40-50 damage to physically resistant monster types (20-25 doubled). At zero fullness, it only does 10-20 damage (5-10 doubled).
  • Spellslinging. This strategy involves using an elemental damage spell combined with some method of raising damage dealt. This requires several permanent skills to make it effective. Since all physically resistant monsters also take only 1 damage from their native element (cold for the queen, spooky for the others) it is recommended that mysticality classes purchase a Codex of Capsaicin Conjuration. Other classes will need to have other methods of controlling physical damage. The primary skills for this purpose would be Immaculate Seasoning for Sauceror spells, or Flavour of Magic for Pastamancer spells. Additionally, it is a good idea to use items and skills that contribute to Bonus Spell Damage.
  • Load up on equipment that adds elemental damage, and then use normal attacks. A list of such items can be found under Bonus Melee Damage. Note that elemental damage from attacks cannot be multiplied, so for example you cannot increase your damage with Thrust-Smack or Lunging Thrust-Smack.
  • Wads. Having the effect from using a hot, cold, stench, spooky, or sleaze wad will add 10 elemental damage to your attacks. This is useful in conjunction with the above strategy.
  • Familiars, such as the Spooky Pirate Skeleton, Feather Boa Constrictor, Flaming Gravy Fairy, among others can also be used to defeat the monsters. You should increase Familiar Weight so your familiar hits for more damage. Also, the familiar equipment plastic pumpkin bucket gives the equipped familiar attacks that are always of the elements the monster is weak against. (For example, if a monster is spooky, PPB attacks from your familiar will always be hot or stench.)
  • Eating Hi meins will give skills that can deal elemental damage. It only lasts for five adventures per hi mein though, and damage is capped at 20. Boozetafarians and Oxygenarians also cannot get these skills.
  • Using a can of hair spray. This is not the best option, as it only deals 6-8 Hot Damage (3-4 doubled). You should only use this if you cannot use any of the above strategies.
  • Use a grouchy restless spirit. It deals 40-45 damage to physically resistant monster types.
  • Another option is using DB chaining attacks such as Disco Inferno for an extra 3 hot damage per attack or produce Disco Bleeding combo which passes Physical Resistance and deals damage.
  • As a last resort, you can use CLEESH to escape encounters with some physically resistant monsters.
