Once you ascend, you have to choose a moon sign. There are signs for each of the three stat classes and they all cause individual, minor changes to gameplay. Your choice is not limited to the class you choose to play as (for example, you can be a Seal Clubber while having a Mysticality sign). While the general benefits of most of these signs has now been determined, quantifiable details still remain elusive. In total, there are nine signs to choose from (plus a tenth that can be unlocked):

Muscle signs:

  • The Mongoose -- Sometimes gives a bonus of a few Muscle stat subpoints after a battle.
  • The Wallaby -- Gives your familiar an occasional weight boost.
  • The Vole -- Adds an extra .5x multiplier to the chance of critical hit. The forum discussion thread can be found here.

The Muscle signs give you access to Inside Degrassi Knoll in the The Nearby Plains.

  • The Platypus -- Sometimes gives a bonus of a few Mysticality stat subpoints after a battle.
  • The Opossum -- Increases adventure gains from food consumption. +0-3 adventures per food, depending on quality of consumed item.
  • The Marmot -- Gives a ten-leaf clover as an added bonus after a non-combat adventure 2.5% of the time.

The Mysticality signs give you access to Little Canadia just outside of the Seaside Town.

Moxie signs:

  • The Wombat -- Sometimes gives a bonus of a few Moxie stat subpoints after a battle.
  • The Blender -- Increases adventure gains from booze consumption. +0-1 adventures per booze.
  • The Packrat -- Sometimes increases base meat drops by 10%.

The Moxie signs give you access to The Gnomish Gnomads' Camp at the Desert Beach.

Other signs:

  • Bad Moon -- Only available in Hardcore, unlocked by completing a Hardcore run without using any ten-leaf clovers. Seals familiars and Ascension rewards from prior Ascension until the king is freed. Enables adventures exclusive to this sign in various areas.

The Bad Moon sign gives you access to Hey Deze via the Doorway to Hey Deze on the Right Side of the Tracks.

Notes

  • The usefulness of certain sign benefits may vary for characters following certain paths; for example the Blender is totally worthless if you are a Teetotaler or Oxygenarian.
  • The ability to access the sign-specific areas only lasts for the current Ascension. Choosing a sign of a different stat class will close off the previous area again.
  • Apparently, the cause of all the astrological signs being transformations of each other is that all the signs are the same -- the character is just facing different directions when ascending.
