- In the various shorts performed by The Three Stooges, when one stooge tried to poke another stooge in the eyes with two fingers of the same hand, said stooge could block this attack by placing the edge of his hand along the bridge of his nose, preventing the fingers from reaching his eyes. "Nyuk nyuk nyuk" is the victorious chuckle that accompanies such an evasion.
- The fumble message references the movie The Karate Kid, where the eponymous hero Daniel finds his sensei Mr Miyagi attempting to catch flies with a pair of chopsticks and is informed that someone who can catch a fly in such a manner can achieve anything. Daniel's success in this endeavour minutes later is dismissed as beginner's luck by his teacher.
