That's quite a shield you've got, there, pilgrim. Despite the fact that it is dominated by an enormous buckle, it is not a buckler. It may or may not be made from a flattened hat.
Wearing this fills you with a powerful sense of entitlement and self-righteousness, and you're always finding spears and hatchets buried in it, for some reason. It's bound to help your progress.
Type: off-hand item (shield)
Damage Reduction: 1 per level
Cannot be discardedMaximum HP +30
Melee Damage +15
+3 Stat(s) Per Fight
Regenerate 10-12 HP per adventure
+50% Weapon Drops from Monsters
(In-game plural: pilgrim shields)
Notes
- November 2006 Item of the Month.
- Mr. Store description: "Carries a variety of Muscle-friendly enchantments. Click for details! (Not equippable in hardcore.)"
- The HP regeneration bonus also occurs after defeating each of the first two Naughty Sorceress forms.
- From January 1 2007- January 3 2007 there was a bug where the pilgrim shield did not regenerate HP during non-combat adventures, but MP.
References
- John Wayne addressed people as "pilgrim" in several of his movies, most memorably The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
- A capotain hat with a buckled band is the iconic piece of headwear of the Puritan pilgrim settlers of Plymouth Colony, however there is little evidence that they actually wore them, due to the Puritan belief that there was no need for excessive dress at any time, including the attending of church services.
- The last line is a reference to The Pilgrim's Progress, a famous allegorical novel.
