A lot

PvP takes place in the Huggler Memorial Colosseum located in The Big Mountains. In order to participate, you must break your Magical Mystical Hippy Stone in your campground. By doing so, you become eligible to attack other players, and to be attacked by other players, until the end of the current PvP season.

Mechanics

Participants have two new PvP-related statistics: Fame and Swagger. They also receive a discrete number of PvP fights every day.

Fame

Normal Fame and Hardcore Fame are tracked separately. Ascending into Hardcore will cause you to use your Hardcore Fame, and breaking the prism or ascending into a non-Hardcore run will cause you to use your Normal Fame.

Fame begins at 100 for all participants. Fame increases when you win, and decreases when you lose, unless the attacker chose a specific opponent (see below). Fame cannot go below 0, but there is no known ceiling. Fame drives one of the minigames, and some of the leaderboards.

Swagger

Participants entering new PvP for the first time receive a one-time Swagger bonus of w/2.5 + f/25 where w is the number of White Canadians drunk and f is the number of pretty flowers picked, prior to entering new PvP.

Swagger goes up when you attack. You gain +1 swagger for each win, and +1 for attacking a random opponent (maximum +2 from a single fight). You do not gain Swagger on defense. You never lose Swagger.

Swagger may be spent in The Swagger Shop, but not while in Ronin or Hardcore.

PvP Fights

Accounts receive 10 PvP fights per day, and may receive Extra PvP Fights from consumables, rollover equipment, and clan furniture. Unused fights carry over to the next day. You can have a maximum of 100 fights after rollover.

It costs one PvP fight to attack another account. It costs nothing to defend. Each attack decrements all of the attacker's effects by one turn. No effects are decremented when defending. Initiating a PvP attack does not consume an adventure.

Players may PvP while drunk.

Fight!

When initiating a fight, the attacker gets to decide:

  • whether to fight a random opponent, a random tougher opponent, or a specific player
  • whether to attack with Muscle, Mysticality, Moxie or Skills (Ballyhoo)
  • whether to try to take Fame, Flowers or Phat Loot (not available in Ronin or Hardcore)

In addition, the attacker may choose win and loss messages, one of which will be displayed to the defender.

If you attack a specific opponent, neither you nor the defender will gain or lose Fame. You will gain 1 Swagger if you win, and none if you lose.

If you attack a random opponent, you get 1 Swagger for a loss, or 2 for a win. In addition, the winner will gain some Fame, and the loser will lose some Fame:

  • If the loser's Fame is less than or equal to the winner's, the winner will gain 1 Fame and the loser will lose 1 Fame.
  • If the loser's Fame is higher than the winner's, the winner will gain (ΔF)1/2 Fame (rounded up), and the loser will lose (ΔF)1/3 Fame (rounded normally), where ΔF is the difference in Fame scores.
  • The gain/loss will be 50% bigger if you attacked for Fame
  • The gain/loss will be bigger if you attacked a random tougher opponent (not spaded yet).

If the attacker loses the fight, (s)he will suffer a loss of dignity and lose some stats. In Hardcore/Ronin, this stat loss is now only 1/10 of what it was prior to the revamp.

If the attacker chooses to fight for Phat Loot, and wins the fight, (s)he will steal a random item from the defender's inventory. Items marked with a special flag (no trade, no sell, no discard, gift items, and quest items) cannot be stolen. Currently equipped items and items stored in the defender's display case and Hagnk's are also safe. Items in the closet are safe as long as there is a valid target in the defender's inventory. A meat golem sometimes prevents item loss.

You can reduce the chance of being chosen as a random opponent by having the buff Silent Running from the Olympic-Sized Swimming Pool active.

Minigames

PvP itself consists of seven rounds of fighting called "minigames".

Minigame Explanation
Adventurer's Prowess The first round of PvP compares the buffed stat which the attacker chose to attack with (or a random stat if the attacker chose Ballyhoo). Unlike the other stat contest, this first round has a slight variance, so if the two amounts are relatively close the higher will not always win. On top of the randomness, there is a chance that the defender will defend with a stat other than the one the attacker chose. So, for instance, the burninating attacker may have his Mysticality compared to the defending Muscle or Moxie. This is intentional and is reflected in the combat text.
Adventurer's Flexibility The second round compares the buffed stat of one of the other two stat types, chosen randomly. The higher stat wins. (This minigame is not chosen if the attacker opts to Ballyhoo.)
The last five (or six, when Ballyhooing) rounds compare seemingly senseless attributes of the two players involved to determine the victor. Ties go to the defender. These minigames will change at the start of each season.
Balanced Diet Comparison Who has the most balanced diet? (Most different types of food eaten in the past 30 days)
Birds of a Slimy Feather Whose clan is the slimiest? (Most Slimy Eyeballs in clan trophy case)
Epic-urean Who's the supreme hobo? (Most Hobo Power)
Exterminator, Too Who's the best ratcatcher? (Most drunken rats slain this season)
Flowers Picked Whose thumb is the greenest? (Most pretty flowers picked this season)
Mystery Contest ??? (Most baggies of powdered sugar in your display case) (KoLSpading thread)
Spelunker Who's the best spelunker? (Most basement levels cleared this season)
Swimming with the Fishes Who is the fishiest? (Most turns spent underwater this season)
The Egg Hunt Who can find the most eggs in 45 seconds? (Highest item drop bonus)
Upward Mobility Contest Who is the most upwardly mobile? (Total Fame gained this season)
Verbosity Demonstration Who takes the longest to describe their gear? (Longest equipment names)
Who Will Not Not Eat Them Who likes green ham the most? (Most green hamhocks eaten this season)

After all seven rounds, the player who won the majority of minigames wins the match.

    • Top Hill Holders: total time (hours:minutes:seconds) spent at the top of the hill.
