Description
This quest becomes available when you have at least 11 points (unbuffed) in your main stat. It is assigned by the character at the Guild Hall who is of the opposite class from you:
- Grignr, the Seal Clubber if you are a Turtle Tamer
- Terri, the Turtle Tamer if you are a Seal Clubber
- Asiago, the Pastamancer if you are a Sauceror
- Edam, the Sauceror if you are a Pastamancer
- Duncan Drisorderly, the Disco Bandit if you are an Accordion Thief
- Stradella, the Accordion Thief if you are a Disco Bandit
The character granting the quest asks you to find the key to Fernswarthy's Tower.
Note: you may have to speak with the quest-giver more than once, and you may have to have spoken with other guild members first.
Tasks
- Adventure at The Misspelled Cemetary until you acquire one of the following:
- Grave robbing shovel (pre-cyrpt) or
- Rusty grave robbing shovel (also obtainable by adventuring The Defiled Alcove)
- Continue adventuring at The Misspelled Cemetary with the shovel in your inventory until you get the A Grave Situation adventure, which gives you Fernswarthy's key.
- See the same guild member who gave you the quest two more times, until he or she asks you to see The Ruins of Fernswarthy's Tower if your mainstat is 18 or higher.
- Adventure there until you acquire a dusty old book.
- Give the book to the guild member who assigned you the quest.
Rewards
- 500 Meat (for finding Fernswarthy's key)
- Area access: The Ruins of Fernswarthy's Tower
- In your Quest Log, under completed quests, you will see: "You've turned in the old book, and they said they didn't want it and for you to go away. A bit anticlimactic, but I suppose it still counts as a success. Congratulations!"
- Class-specific reward:
- Manual of Labor (Muscle classes)
- Manual of Transmission (Myst classes)
- Manual of Dexterity (Moxie classes)
Text
Before getting Fernswarthy's key, your Quest Log will read:
- You've been tasked with digging up the grave of an ancient and powerful wizard and bringing back a key that was buried with him. What could possibly go wrong?
After returning Fernswarthy's key, your Quest log will read:
- Well, you got the key and turned it in -- mission accomplished. How much do you wanna bet, though, that they won't be able to find anyone else to search the tower, and you'll be stuck with the dirty work again?
After getting Fernswarthy's key again, your Quest Log will read:
- Much as you expected, you've been given back the key to Fernswarthy's tower and ordered to investigate.
Subsequent visits:
- Seal Clubber: "I am a very busy man. Do not bother me until you have completed the task you've been assigned."
- Turtle Tamer: "I am a very busy man. Do not bother me until you have completed the task you've been assigned."
- Pastamancer: "I am a very busy man. Do not bother me until you have completed the task you've been assigned."
- Sauceror: "I am a very busy man. Do not bother me until you have completed the task you've been assigned."
- Disco Bandit:
- Accordion Thief:
After returning with the dusty old book:
- Seal Clubber: Terri looks aggravated when you hand over the book you found. "That's it? That's just an old copy of the Manual of Labor! Keep the stupid thing, we've got tons of those already. Bah, I should have known it wasn't worth the trouble to mess with that crumbling old ruin. Well, what are you standing around here for? Go find something to do, I'm busy!"

You acquire an item: Manual of Labor - Pastamancer: Edam looks up from his reading as you approach him with the old book. "I see you've acquired a copy of the Manual of Transmission. Is that all you managed to find in the tower? Hmm. Well, I must say I'm not surprised. Run along now, I'll let you know if I need you for anything else."
You acquire an item: Manual of Transmission - Sauceror: Asiago looks up from his reading as you approach him with the old book. "I see you've acquired a copy of the Manual of Transmission.
