bookbat You're fighting a bookbat

If a brickbat is a small fragment of a brick, does that mean that this thing is a small fragment of a book? Nope. Not at all.

In fact, it's a book that's been possessed by some sort of restless spirit and is now flying around the library attacking anybody who happens by.

You happen by.

Hit Message(s):

It hits you in the spine with its spine. Ow! Ow!

It flaps toward you and slams shut on your <throat>. Ow! Ugh!

It buzzes your head and gives you a nasty papercut across the cheek. Ooh! Ouch!

Critical Hit Message:

It lights on a nearby bookshelf, blending in invisibly with the other books. As you walk up to try to find it, it abruptly takes off again, starting an avalanche of books that pretty thoroughly crushes you. Argh! Eek! Ouch!

Miss Message(s):

It tries to hit you with its spine, but you've got your Orange Crush. I mean, you dodge it.

It tries to slam shut on your <throat>, but you dive behind a bookshelf and avoid it.

It tries to divebomb your head, but you duck under a table and it bounces away harmlessly.

Fumble Message:

It barrels toward you, but you quickly produce a copy of the New Yorker from a nearby shelf and show it a scathing review of itself. It flutters away, muttering about how liberals wouldn't know good literature if it smacked them in the face. (FUMBLE!)

After Combat
You acquire an item: tattered scrap of paper (29.9% chance)*
You gain 14 <substat>.

Occurs at The Haunted Library.
