Here's a suggestion: can we set up an export of the wiki and import it into a ''read-only'' backup of the wiki, hosted in a totally different place (say, Dreamhost)? The backup doesn't have to be ultra-reliable or anything, but the likelihood of both the backup and the main wiki being down at the same time cuts the risk of complete unavailability.

| I've noticed that news articles on the main page seem to have issues with links. The current one I'm seeing is causing a substantial horizontal scroll bar because of this, for example. The problem being that the main page isn't converting the links to hyperlinks, and just leaves the full text of the url where it is. If I click on the "read more" link, I see it formatted in a nicer, hyper-text format. Can something be done about this? I'd appreciate if you would stop including the very aggressive "drivecleaner" popups in the site. These popups appear in a Windows OK box and are easy to accidentally hit enter on due to this camouflage. --Peterwhimsey 08:17, 16 November 2006 (CST)
- I don't think the wiki uses any pop-up ads. I haven't seen any in FF (or a blocked pop-up notification) or when I double check the appearance of things in IE, are you sure it's the wiki doing it or is something fishy happening on your end? If there were pop-ups I'm sure many of us would be complaining, because after the wiki skin change we were complaining about the animated flash ads, which have been reduced since. I'm assuming your probably using IE on windows, but anyway (if on windows) trying running the free versions of Ad-Aware and Spybot - Search & Destroy, which are both adware/spyware/malware removers and SpywareBlaster, which blocks unwanted sites in FF and IE (shatty active-x controls), etc. And have an obligatory token link to FF too ;-) And if the preceding seemed obvious to you (or didn't work), giving us the path of the pop-up/image/flash would be nice or if you could locate which advertising service it is, even better. I'll wander around in IE for a while and see what "pops up"... pun intended. And there is always Adblock, you'll see it once then never again ;-) -JRSiebz (☎|§|‡) 16:50, 17 November 2006 (CST)
- Upon further review (pressing "random page" a bunch), I still have not encountered a wiki supplied pop-up ad, though I am extremely disappointed in the wiki's ad selection. The ads don;t even seems to be well targeted at all, the RealAge ABC ads about abdominal discomfort, bloating, and constipation are really annoying. Even the PA Child's Play link is swf! There is even an aol.com ad... that is just ridiculous! There are almost always large animated flash ads on the top and right, and if not are animated gifs. I felt epileptic trying to view the wiki in IE. I didn't realize it was so bad, since I use FF all the time. In FF I have adblock set up to block every ad in the right frame so that the the main display area for the wiki's pages is wider, I tend to edit many pages and it is an eyesore/pain having everything (the page source, a preview, etc.) all in a 2 inch column in the middle which scrolls down 20 screens (exaggerated for emphasis). I use a custom adblock set, I understand sites may need to have advertising (I don't block reasonably sized static pics or text ads), but to me, that right ends when something is large, popped-up, animated, and/or flash. I wish coldfront would take a trick from KoL (even rKoL) and take donations instead of flash-adding us to death. --JRSiebz (☎|§|‡) 17:12, 17 November 2006 (CST)

- First of all, thanks for not dismissing this and looking into it seriously. More detail, I normally use FF for this site. I decided to use IE to check what you asked and got the following: "The website "www.driveclaener.com" has requested to save a file on your computer called a "cookie". This file may be used to track usage information. Do you want to allow this?" Note the insidious use of "claener" instead of the more easily trackable "cleaner". I also stress that I never see this stuff on any other site. Could it be the side bar provider? I get ads there that are in Dutch, so this is targeted at me (being from the Netherlands). I tries to install this: installdrivecleanerstart_nl.cab from "Drivecleaner Inc". On FF I got the following cookie requests and also 4 different installation requests (i.e., not popups). Cookies: www.drivecleaner.com, www.driveclaener.com, go.drivecleaner.com and stats.drivecleaner.com. --Peterwhimsey 04:35, 20 November 2006 (CST)
- Here is the wikipedia article on WinFixer / WinAntiVirus / ErrorSafe / SystemDoctor / DriveCleaner (all same program). I haven't been able to have what you describe happen to me, but it is possible one of the (Dutch?) advertisers which gets selected is a douche ;-), has garbage embedded in it's ads. I think coldfront can opt out of certain ads, if we/you can limit it down to a specific ad(vertiser)... but coldfront admins don't wander around the wiki much. But I *think* (maybe) it is more likely you have caught it from somewhere else and it is manifesting here. Does this happen on just the wiki or other sites too? (I don't think I asked that yet). - Thanks for the link - it's a bit more helpful than what I googled so far. As it is I'm not infected though. I'm just being harassed constantly when I use the KOLwiki - as you'll see in your link to Diskcleaner Wiki it offers to install itself and does this constantly. It drives me nuts :S. I know I should probably get some sort of malware blocker plugin (haven't found a satisfactory one yet), but I want you guys to be aware of the fact that this is going on at the KOLwiki.--Peterwhimsey 10:46, 20 November 2006 (CST)
- Definitely a top bar advertisement from Drivecleaner. They have a few different versions they cycle through. Every different ad prompts an installation OK/Cancel box. The only way NOT to get infected by this disgrace is to be very careful with the enter key and use ALt F4 every time. Over and out from me. - If I might step in for a moment....Coldfront (and therefore the Wiki) uses NO popup ads. If you are seeing any, it is a problem with spyware on your end, not ours. How about changing the moons at rollover instead of at 12:00 AM(or whenever it changes). I frequently check the moon cycles after rollover and it's a bit of a hassle to go and look at a calender...--Kookoo275 12:45, 20 August 2006 (CDT)
- Glancing over the way the moons template is written, it looks to me that takes the date according to wiki-server time, and sets the moons based on a pattern that corresponds to the date. I'm not sure if adjusting the template to "rollover" at x hours before server-midnight is plausible. --Alpaca (T/C) 21:27, 20 August 2006 (CDT)
- It is possible to set a global time delta in MediaWiki to make it think it's in a different time zone - this would allow rollover-anchored events to display properly, though it would cause signature timestamps to be off. --Quietust 21:36, 20 August 2006 (CDT)

- I was just about to beg the web server admins to do that (change the server time), but then I realized that Coldfront is shared-hosted by Southwest Bell... so the Coldfront admins probably don't have the power to change the server OS time and/or timezone. Are the Moons ummm you know broken? I mean I'm getting a Aug 27/06 still and it is 5:04 pm AZMountain on the 28th. The whole changing the system to incoporate the minimoon and move it from the older system seems entirely worthless to me. The moons use to be correct and not excessivly hard to glean info from with a link that went to a nice calendar page etc. It seems like in the aim of progress we have achieved the exact opposite.--Practitioner of Saucy Arts 19:06, 28 August 2006 (CDT)

Eyedrops
Today's article on eyedrops lists four eyedrops in the Kingdom (Knob Goblin, Ermine, Ocelot, Newt and Soft Green Echo) but that's actually five, and also misses the sixth and seventh: Cyclops Eyedrops and Black Eyedrops.

I'd suggest moving Black Eyedrops to position 1, then put Cyclops Eyedrops to spot 2, with the explanation that Knob Goblin Eyedrops, Ermine and Ocelot are all attempts to replicate the second formula with varying degrees of success. Then add that Newt Eyedrops were also created by saucerors, but with a far different effect. And then finish off with the Soft Green Echo as it stands. --JoseCuervo

New Adventure?
While Adventuring in Whitleys Grove, I came across this adventure
