I've seen this theme reoccuring in many other places, including cartoons like "Rugrats" and another cartoon (or anime, either way I can't remember the name of for my life) that involves a character enraged and while he isn't looking, trips over the tip of the top of a pyramid, pawing at it trying to lift it up only to realize he has to dig further down (at which points he gets his other friends, or something). The "tiny pyramid" reference
I don't know if the origin is Sluggy Freelance (as much as I would like it to be). I've seen this theme reoccuring in many other places, including cartoons like "Rugrats" and another cartoon (or anime, either way I can't remember the name of for my life) that involves a character enraged and while he isn't looking, trips over the tip of the top of a pyramid, pawing at it trying to lift it up only to realize he has to dig further down (at which points he gets his other friends, or something).
