Elements

The five main elements in the Kingdom of Loathing are hot, cold, stench, spooky, and sleaze. Various creatures are aligned to different elements; if you prepare correctly, you can exploit their weaknesses and build up resistance to their attacks using various items and spells. In addition, there are five gravy fairy familiars aligned to a particular element, which will deal elemental damage to your enemies when they accompany you.

There are two other, more mysterious elements which do not fit with the others: bad spelling and shadow. Creatures which deal bad spelling damage are vulnerable to the use of a dictionary, while shadow damage is dealt by your Shadow and cannot be resisted.
