While the past is all well and good, the view of the Kingdom's future was horrifying. At the rise of the Gray Plague, the Council of Loathing predicted that the plague would cause zombification, and mass chaos, including a widescale nuke blast to try to resolve the situation. Adventurers were sent on a quest into the future to retrieve a key ingredient in the vaccine against the plague. Once the plague was extinct, the Council's homemade rift closed for good, and most of the others followed suit as time repaired itself.

Time Travel is a feature of the Kingdom which first occurred after White Wednesday. In order to time travel, adventurers must locate a Temporal Rift and simply leap through it. This does not take any adventures.

Rifts appeared in 5 locations - The Nearby Plains, Mt. McLargeHuge, The Distant Woods, The Mysterious Island of Mystery, and even the Council of Loathing ripped their own. The appearance of these rifts was accompanied by shockwaves, which caused all sorts of strange things to happen, including the reappearance of Half of a Cannon, the Penguin Mafia it had been aimed at, and a rift inside Hagnk's Ancestral Mini-Storage which linked the building to a time when everything was on fire. All but one of the rifts have since closed, and the remaining one in The Nearby Plains is only visible at experience Level 4 and 5.

Adventures who follow the rift at The Nearby Plains can observe the origins of things such as the Arena, the Misspelled Cemetary or even the legendary Spectral Pickle Factory. The only area of interest, though, is The Cola Wars Battlefield, where rare and useful items such as Dyspepsi-Cola and Cloaca-Cola equipment and grenades can be found. However, there were many casualties, including the appearance of a mysterious illness...
