De Los Dioses

The next room of Fernswarthy's basement is decked out like an old-timey deli -- it has a checkerboard-tile floor, a big glass meat case, and a friendly, portly fellow behind the counter. The only weird thing is the guy behind the counter has a halo instead of a paper hat, a toga instead of an apron, and he's hovering a few feet off the floor.

"Welcome, adventurer," he says, "to the Delicatessen of the Gods! Can I interest you in some cold cuts of the gods? How about a cherry fizz of the gods? Or maybe even a banana split of the gods, topped with real hot fudge syrup of the gods!"

"Uh, no thanks," you say. "I, uh, ate the food of the gods once and got a stomachache."

"Nonsense," he says, "I can tell you have the hunger of the gods! Here, let me make you a little snack of the gods." He whips up a sandwich with godlike alacrity. "I'll just wrap it in this brown wax paper of the gods, so you can eat it whenever you feel like it of the gods!" he says.
