You've already got the tattoo to prove that you're a proud ex-member of the Merc Core.

• Otherwise:

You pull the coin out of your pocket and turn it over in your hand. "Hey, man, were you in the Merc Core?" says a nearby tattoo artist. "Awesome! My uncle was in that. Until he got killed by a horrible otherworldly monster, I mean. Anyhoo, you want a tattoo? It's on the house!"You get the tattoo, and at some point later, you lose the coin. Oh well.
