- This familiar references Terry Pratchett's Discworld novel The Fifth Elephant. An "Igor" has grown a number of disemfaced noses to act as transplants; the noses are scurrying around in a large tank.
- It might also reference Nikolai Gogol's short story "The Nose", in which a civil servant's nose leaves his face to go out on its own as an independent entity, much to the embarrassment of its "owner."
