| You head to your campsite and crank up the drum machine. You press buttons at random, waiting for something interesting to happen, but you only succeed in annoying your neighbors. |

| You turn up the bass on your drum machine and set it to pound out a steady rhythm. Soon, the rushing of sand fills your ears, and you barely manage to jump out of the way as a gigantic sandworm erupts from beneath the surface with an unearthly howl. You run alongside the worm and fasten your hooks to its side, pulling back one of its rings of chitinous armor and exposing the soft flesh underneath. The worm quickly rolls to keep its exposed flank away from the sand -- you are dragged up onto the worm's back, clutching the hooks in a vice-grip of fear.
Surveying the landscape from the worm's back, several hundred yards in the air, you let out an exhilarated whoop and give the worm a thump with your heels. It howls again and shoots off into the desert at top speed as you laugh triumphantly with the wind whipping at your clothes and hair. After many hours, you finally spot the pyramid in the distance. You steer the worm toward it, and reach the stone monument just as the worm grinds to a halt, exhausted. You jump clear as it quickly burrows underneath the hot desert sand. Dammit! Your hooks were still on there! Oh well. At least now you know where the pyramid is. |

Notes
- The giant sandworm can be summoned and fought even if you are falling-down drunk, as long as you aren't out of adventures.
- Using a Drum Machine with Worm-riding hooks equipped does not consume an adventure.

- The Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer was one of the first programmable drum machines
- The Fremen used "drum machines" called "Thumpers" to attract the worms in the novel Dune, by Frank Herbert. They used riding hooks to hang on while riding the enormous worms. Most of this quest and its imagery/terminology derive from that book.
- The association of worms with the drum machine could be a reference to the They Might Be Giants song Dr. Worm, a song about a worm that plays the drums.
- The idea of giant worms attracted by sound is also found in the Tremors series. However, given the many clear references to Dune, such a reference is probably incidental rather than intentional. (Also see the giant sandworm fumble message for an actual Tremors reference.)
