• The name is a reference to Mountain Dew, a citrus soda made by PepsiCo known for its high amount of caffeine. The Mountain Dew marketing strategy usually depicts people drinking Mountain Dew while involved in extreme sports.

• The method of gaining this iten by casting Magic Missile on the darkness comes from the video at the end of summoner where the demon is going to get a Mountain Dew and Elzar: Sorcerer of Light proclaims that he is casting magic missile on the darkness.
