- The name of the effect is a variation on the title of a popular song by the band R.E.M. called "Shiny Happy People".
- The description text refers to the tendency of Jick and Mr Skullhead to claim that they have had sex with the other's mother on their Radio KoL show.
- It is also an internet phenomenon to be banned from many forums and chatsites for saying "I slept with your mom.", or "I slept with your mum." No-one knows it's origin.
