This is a forked mahogany twig, encrusted with silver fillagree and Swarovski crystals. It's a lot like the dowsing rods that poor people use to find water, except designed to hunt things more valuable than water -- like blue chip stocks, or Fabergé eggs. Not that you're likely to find either in the middle of the desert, but you never know.
