Recover the Lighthouse Keeper's Gunpowder is a sidequest in the Mysterious Island Quest. The Lighthouse Keeper needs your help retrieving barrels of gunpowder from Sonofa Beach.

Tasks

  • Talk to The Lighthouse Keeper
  • Adventure in Sonofa Beach until you fight at least five lobsterfrogman. They are guaranteed to drop a barrel of gunpowder.
  • Easy as that sounds, it may take a while. Sonofa Beach is entirely noncombats, except for the lobsterfrogman. To speed things up, try boosting the frequency of combat adventures. Either way, it's going to take a while.
  • Once you have five barrels, return to the lighthouse. He'll disappear inside.
  • Go to the lighthouse again to finish this sidequest and get your reward.

Trying to talk to The Lighthouse Keeper without wearing soldier fatigues:'

"Sorry, but I don't have time to mess around with you right now. I'm waiting for the soldiers to come and help me, bumpty-bumpty-bump."

Talking to The Lighthouse Keeper in war fatigues initially:

Finally, some help, bumpty-bumpty-bump! Here I was, just minding my own business, trying to make the big boom, big boom, bumpty-bump, when all of a sudden war breaks out! War, bumpty-bumpty-bump! Those pirates, they went away, but on the way out of the cove they sank the ship that was bringing me my gunpowder! I need it! I need it for the big big boom, bumpty-bump!
Anyway, I tried going down to Sonofa Beach to see if any of it washed up, bumpty-bump, but those lobsterfrogmen down there are too tough for me to handle.
You -- you go get it for me, bumpty-bumpty-bump? 5 barrels, at least."

After bringing back five barrels:

"My gunpowder! Big boom! Big big boom! Thank you, bumpty-bumpty-bump! Bumpty-bump!"
He gazes at you thoughtfully for a few seconds, then a smile lights up his face and he says "My life... er... my bombs for you. My bombs for you, bumpty-bumpty-bump!"
He then disappears into the lighthouse.

Next visit:

"I took most of the bombs over to your house, bumpty-bumpty-bump, but there are a few left over. Big boom! Big boom!
As a Frat:
You acquire N tequila grenades
You acquire N molotov cocktail cocktails
or
You acquire N beer bombs
You acquire N sake bombers
As a Hippy:
You acquire N patchouli oil bombs
You acquire N exploding hackensacks

Once a day after competing the sidequest:

"Big boom, bumpty-bumpty-bump. Big big boom! Bring me some gunpowder, and I'll make it for you! Big boom for you, bumpty-bump!"

Returning without a soldier's fatigues on:

"The man giggles madly.
"I'm making the big boom, bumpty-bumpty-bump, but not for you! Not for you! You'll see, bumpty-bump! You'll see!"

Subsequent visits:

"I already gave you the big boom today, bumpty-bump! More tomorrow! More tomorrow!"

  • The Lighthouse Keeper is based on the "Trashcan Man", a character from Stephen King's The Stand with an explosives fixation. His exclamations of "bumpty-bump!" and "my bombs(life) for you!" are a reference to this character.
