The Server You're fighting The Server

Despite the stacks of roaring box-fans, the room was as hot as the mouth of hell. The source of the heat was obviously the grotesque obelisk in the center of the room, an undulating stack of what initially appeared to be computer hardware, except some of it seemed to be made of meat, and some of the blinking LED lights looked unsettlingly like eyeballs. The cables that snaked across the floor looked alternately like power cords, squid tentacles, and umbilical cords.

Stomping on the terror welling up in my stomach, I stormed toward the disgusting thing, determined to find the power switch. My stride was interrupted by a cable whipping toward me and coiling around my leg.

Hit Message(s):

Two tentacles wrapped around my arms and started pulling me apart like a wishbone. Ooh! Ugh!

Critical Hit Message:

A cable wrapped around my neck, cutting off my supply of oxygen. That was unfortunate, as I was addicted to the stuff, and started getting withdrawals pretty quickly. Ooh!

Miss Message(s):

Two tentacles wrapped around my arms, but I was able to yank them out of their sockets. ...I mean the cables, not my arms.

A tentacle wrapped around my <leg>, but I poked the computer in the LED and the tentacle quickly retracted.

A tentacle attempted to interface with my part, but couldn't find a compatible socket.

A tentacle tried to whip me in the <leg>, but fortunately I remembered the safeword.

One of the tentacles flailed, trying to replace the metal panel I knocked off earlier, to protect the exposed circuits and sockets. It didn't seem quite dextrous enough to manage the task, though.

Fumble Message:

Several cables started toward me at once, and got tangled around each other. (FUMBLE!)

After Combat
A tentacle tried to grab the electronic device as I pulled it out of my pocket, but I quickly knocked it away and settled the goggles over my eyes. Taking hold of the plug, I feinted to one side, then the other, then leapt at the access panel and slammed the plug into a randomly-selected socket, praying to every god in the Chinese pantheon that I'd picked the right one.

My vision exploded into rainbow-colored static, and a sharp buzzing filled my ears. What would this be like if I'd had the neural probes, I briefly wondered. What does rainbow static taste like?

The static faded away to white, then sky blue. I was flying through the sky, a mile above a beautiful Asian fantasy landscape. Fields of cherry trees were in bloom, gleaming white cranes wheeled below me, shimmering serpentine dragons frolicked in curlicued clouds. On the horizon, a mountain came into view, and grew larger and larger as I zoomed toward it. It was engraved with an elaborate set of swirls and unreadable Chinese characters, and below that, in small letters, "Beta Version 0.3b".

Then I slammed into it, and everything went black.

Embrace Darkness

Occurs at the Chinatown Tenement as a result of entering debasement.

Notes

A panel fell off of the side of the tower with a CLANG! Inside, I could see the shine of chrome input ports.
  • Certain miss messages (like the one that starts "One of the tentacles flailed") only appear after this has happened.
  • This monster cannot be copied.
  • The monster appears to have some sort of infinite health regeneration, as halving its hp with pencil stubs will decrease its hp by around 400000000 damage, but can survive much higher damage than 800000000 damage.(Needs Spading)
