- The Stately Pleasure Dome refers to the poem Kubla Khan, or a Vision in a Dream. A Fragment by Wikipedia:Samuel Taylor Coleridge:Coleridge, which was allegedly inspired by drug-induced hallucinations.
- The Rogue Windmill may refer to the Moulin Rouge ('Red Windmill' in French).
- The Mouldering Mansion contains several references to the works of Edgar Allan Poe, who was also believed to be a frequent drinker of absinthe.
- In the movie Moulin Rouge (2001), the main characters drink absinthe. Also, there was much absinthe in the actual Moulin Rouge.
