Mechanics

According to several spading attempts, the mechanics behind the pool table seem to be tied to several factors. Equipment, buffs, and the number of time you have gotten the "A Shark's Chum" adventure. This count seems to carry across ascensions, luckily.

Equipment that improves your odds of winning: Pool Cue (enhcanced by having the Staff of Fats in your inventory) Lucky Rabbit Foot

Buffs that improve your odds of winning: Chalked Weapon Chalked Hands Swimming With the Sharks

I am going to get so much crap for all this spoiling on the wiki --James111222 05:02, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Does it matter which choice you pick in A Shark's Chum? --Missingno 02:03, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Does falling-down drunk decrease your odds? I lost three times in a row to someone with no relevant equipment (his equipment was visible). I had all of the equipment and effects shown here. But I also had drunkenness of 25. --Kpsmith67 23:00, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Falling-down drunk must decrease your odds. After rollover (and sobriety), I took the table easily and have since won the next 62 consecutive games. --Kpsmith67 16:06, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Random Notes

I really want to know what happens when you get 37 wins in a row--tophat 10:36, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Can Hardcore players use this? --Sparksol (t|c) 11:51, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Nevermind. Hadn't read the forum post yet. (Yes, it can.) --Sparksol (t|c) 12:01, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

is it random? at all?

Added the reference section and a possible reference. It seemed to me that the mentioning of sitting out the next games of pool with your hands in your pockets might be a play on the slang phrase "pocket pool". I didn't put what it is slang for in the references section because I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to post here. --Gleezus 19:37, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Not exactly sure where to put this in the page at the moment, so I'm just going to post it here for the wikignomes to assimilate it in due time.

If you challenge yourself to a game of pool, you get the following message:

  • You play a game of pool against yourself. Unsurprisingly, you win! Inevitably, you lose.

[You then receive your buff as usual, and your winning streak is unaffected. Tested on two different play styles, found identical messages.] Slackerjack 03:09, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Looks like you're in charge of the table.

I got this when no-one had won a game of pool. I assume it's the message that shows up when you're the current Pool Champion too.

The following showed up under "high scores":

  • No clan member has maintained a streak.

When you play pool against yourself your own avatar appears on both sides of the table.

Someone on the forums mentioned winning 37 times in a row I don't believe there was a special message, I can't confirm it though.--Banana lord 05:59, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

My streak in HoD has reached 126 wins. I've not observed any "special" messages so far (aside from the usual event message for each pool game). I think it's just a fun little leaderboard, nothing more. Slackerjack 15:45, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Personally I think its not random and i think there is a system to it, so i made a table, someone whos good at tables on the wiki work your magic and make this good.

Challenger | Controller | Winner

Stylish | Stratigic | Controller

Aggrssive | Agressive | Controller

Stratigic | Agressive | Challenger So yeah, maybe its like rock paper scissors, i dont know... --Coolness 17:59, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't think it's based on stats, I was facing a lvl 29 pasta mancer with these stats:

Muscle: 464 Mysticality: 796 (789) Moxie: 480 (470)

against my level 31 disco bandit with these stats:

Mus: 1776 (655) Mys: 1671 (655) Mox: 5249 (905)

and I lost the "stylish" play. I didn't buff the other stats when i played and lost on those as well. Just some random notes if anyone wants to add them to the page or use them for confirmation. --Jahbreeze 22:13, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

I've been getting the Shark's Chum semi-rare adventure almost every time I can. I lost track of how many times I've received it some time ago but I'm sure it's at the very least over 30. I am now at 144 wins at the pool table and no one can beat me now, even without me wearing any gear or having any buffs. I'm not sure if people are just not trying with full buffs and gear, but I think the Shark's Chum either plays a bigger part in winning or I've done it enough times where it overrides all the other pool buffs and gear.
