Is the idea that "duct" tape drops from the ducks a reference, as when people say "duct tape" it can be heard as "duck tape?" Hence..."Duck" tape dropping from the ducks...Get it? Okay, good. Because I repeated myself like 3 times. *laughs* --Zedarius 00:43, 16 July 2007 (CDT)

  • The etymologies of duct and duck are completely unrelated. Duct comes from the Latin "ductus," while duck comes from the German ("tauchen" or "ducken") or the Middle English ("duken" or "douken"). If you really care to know, duct tape was originally developed to seal ammunition cases, but people then adopted it for use on ventilation ducting... and just about everything else.
