Talk:Kingdom of Loathing Calendar
I'm not so good at html.. The tables need to be spaced out. The calendar isn't really a great reference at this point; someone with better style might want to take a look. --Snickles 18:40, 16 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
I'm just putting this information here for reference, unless someone wants to incorporate it somehow. --Snickles 14:36, 17 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
Converting
Gorgolok 17:13, 25 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- KY1 -- 8/30/04 to 12/3/04
- KY2 -- 12/4/04 to 3/9/05
- KY3 -- 3/10/05 to 6/6/05
- KY4 -- 6/7/05
KY1, 2, etc.. are arbitrary years cribbed from Subjunctive KOL's SISC system. ;)
SSPD
Jick's stated in the forums that Saint Sneaky Pete's Day was not supposed to reoccur on Jarlsuary 8, and he plans on resetting it for sometime in the *next* KoL year, I believe. Probably sometime in Petember KY 5 if I had to guess.
--MahSpoon
It is being moved to Starch 3. Updated the page appropriately.
--GodTheMod2 06:48, 22 Sept 2005 (Mountain Daylight Time)
I changed it back to Jarlsuary 8... I will refix. My bad.
Oyster Egg Day
From what I understand, it is supposed to recur every April 2 (KoL Calendar, not real world). I'm 99.99% sure that it won't jump around anymore than it has already. --Aardvark 06:01, 9 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- well easter floats around between march and april, so i'd assume oyster egg day would do... it has so far. i'm sure there some formula to figure out easter ;-) the first tuesday after the first.... haha --JRSiebz 06:06, 9 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- Well, the only reason it's floated so far is because Jick hadn't determined a KoL date for it to repeat on. The first one occured on the real Easter, as all the other holidays first occured on the actual holiday date. Unlike the other holidays, however, there was a rather large stretch of time between meat-world Easter and KoL April, the ideal month for it to fall in. There should never be two regular KoL calendar holidays that fall within the same KoL month, unless the real-world and kol calendars clash. St. Sneaky Pete's day will likely fall in Starch. --Aardvark 06:18, 9 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
Dates and Moons
With 16-day moon phases and 8-day months, the moon cycle repeats every 2 months. As the number of months in the KoL year is even, that means every day has its moon constellation. The year starts on the second of the two consecutive moxie days. That means every 5th of a KoL month is a Mysticality day, the 1st of an odd month and the 8th of an even month will be Moxie days, the 1st and 2nd of even months will be muscle days. I tried to color these in in red blue and green, but that seemed to mess with the table setting, so I left it alone. Should this go in here? Should there be a link to the Moons page? I'd find that quite interesting, if only to point out to noobs that the feast of Boris will NEVER fall on a stat day...--Gorgolok
- Unless the real-life Thanksgiving falls on a stat day, of course.--Idran 22:05, 5 April 2006 (CDT)
Calendar Images
- Is there a reason that the image names for the girls of Mar, May, and Nov are different than the other ones? Is it ok to make them consistent? --Fryguy9 15:03, 23 Sep 2005 (MDT)
- Shouldn't KoL Calendar#The Girls of Loathing and KoL Calendar#The Boys of Loathing be on the page Calendar of Loathing, which is the actualy thing that can be purchased in the game, instead of KoL Calendar, which is a meta-ish events calendar for the community? --NewZorkBat 11:42, 7 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
Other Holidays
- Wasn't April Fool's Day a special occassion last year? I heard rumours about Jick installing joke "this adventure was brought to you by: " banner ads, and something about the Spectral Pickle Factory showing up in the Plains, but it wasn't clickable. --Mozai 16:44, 30 March 2006 (CST)
KOL Years
- Does anyone know anything about KOL Years? I think that KOL started sometime in early 2003, so we're currently in year 11 in KOL years (I think). Does it make any sense to use KOL years in connection with various KOL holidays or events like oyster egg days, etc.? --Gymnosophist 20:25, 30 April 2006 (CDT)
New Month Names?
I just looked at my clan calender and it clashed with the month name that this page says. It says today is Febtober 5. I don't see that name anywhere on the page at all though. I think we need to consider the possibility that they changed the name of the months in a stealth update.--Terrabull 23:31, 16 September 2006 (CDT)
On the references page of the clan calendar, it says this: "The Calendar of Loathing can randomly display Porktober as "Febtober", a reference to a "Celebrity Jeopardy" sketch on Saturday Night Live. In that particular sketch, Sean Connery (as impersonated by Darrell Hammond) insisted that the response to "This is the only month that starts with Feb" is "What is Febtober?"" Hope that clears it up. --Venturboy 18:26, 18 December 2006 (CST)
RL & KoL holidays?
Has anyone else noticed the suden increace in Kol Holidays lining up with Real Life holidays? Could there be something to this or is this just good cawinidance(spelling error i know, i know)--CSDragon 17:13, 6 May 2007 (CDT)
It's coincidence. The KoL calendar is fixed at 8 days a month, 12 months a year, for 96 days. The Earth calendar changes between 365 and 366 days in a 4 year rotation, but one that's also pretty fixed - not likely that the people in charge of the real life calendar will change it because of KoL. On the other hand, since 96 goes around much quicker than 365, we run into the KoL holidays pretty quickly, over and over... and the chances of *any* one of them landing on a date that's significant for some other reason (Cinco de Mayo in this case) isn't all that low.
Of course, it's vaguely possible that Jick, way back when, went "oh I know, I want to have a bunch of holidays fall on each other in 2007 and such" and planned his calendar back in 2005 or 2004 or whenever it was, based on these assumptions. But I don't think Jick is that sort of person.--Lxndr 19:22, 6 May 2007 (CDT)
Browser Caching
Can we add a no-cache tag to the calendar page? --Itsatrap 17:50, 14 June 2007 (CDT)
