212 rounds of combat, 108 actions. Seems like roughly 50% action rate. HP restored at 11 pounds ranged from 5 HP to 11 HP. Jingle Bells never kicked in. @ 12 pounds, HP restored was 6 to 12. @ 13 pounds, damage is 6 to 13 and confirmed that he is doing damge with a familiar only kill. Suggests floor(x/2) to x where x=weight.--Fluxxdog 04:50, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

You enter Rangifer (@ 19 pounds) against Sir Suck in an Ultimate Cage Match.

Rangifer struggles for 16 rounds, but is eventually knocked out.

Rangifer lost. This suggests the Robot Reindeer can perform in the cage match, just not very good.--Fluxxdog 05:25, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

"The name of the protocol your reindeer is using will consist of either the first half or last half of all active protocols in the same order as the song Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Dancer, Dasher, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Rudolph). " Someone care o rewrite this so it is clear what it means? I can't as I haven't seen it. --Feasoron 3:32 3 December 2010 (EST)

An example: I used a P.R.A.N.C.E.R. protocol, which caused my reindeer to boot up in P.R.A.N.C.E.R. Using a DASHER later caused him to start using "HERPRAN" protocol (das HER + PRAN cer). Similarly, when I had DASHER, DONNER, and VIXEN running, I saw "HERVIXDON". --Beatrixkiddo 20:47, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Upon the protocol running out, i received the message: "Gronald beeps softly and says, "trial version of X.E.N.P.I.D.D.O.N. Protocol has expired. Please enter registration key or upload another protocol."" I'm not sure if there are variations beyond names. --Gulgothica 1:23 3 December 2010 (PST)

Prancer protocol

Changes the familiar behavior to delevel enemies. A level 16 Robot Reindeer did this after using the protocol:

Torg prances across the head (or whatever passes for same in this instance) of your opponent, dazing them with a panoply of hoofbeats. Monster Attack Monster attack power reduced by 8 Monster Defense Monster defense reduced by 8

edit: It did this at the very start of a battle.

Combat Messages

No protocol: <name> unreels a needle-tipped tube from its mouth, and another from its -- er, the opposite of its mouth. It sticks one end into you, the other end into him, and pumps life out of him and into you. Happy Crimbo! You gain X hit points.

BILTZEN: A Jacob's Ladder of electricity arcs between <name>'s antlers. The hairs on your neck stand up. You gain X Muscularity Points.

COMET: <name> swoops high into the sky, then dive-bombs him like a comet. Since comets are mostly made of ice (the more you know!), he takes a chilly X damage.

CUPID: <name> strings a bowstring between his antlers, and uses it (along with a few servo arms) to fire a poison-tipped arrow at him. He looks weaker. Monster attack power reduced by X Monster defense reduced by X

DANCER: <name> does a soft-shoe routine. Soft-hoof? Or is that a disease? Anyway, the robot reindeer was dancing, is the point.

DASHER: <name> dashes him against the rocks (you know, those rocks over there) for X damage.

DONNER: <name>'s left eye quickly irises in and out, then shoots a red laser beam to some meat you had overlooked.

PRANCER: <name> prances across the heads (or whatever passes for same in this instance) of your opponents, dazing them with a panoply of hoofbeats. Monster attack power reduced by X Monster defense reduced by Y

RUDOLPH: <name> holds out an old-fashioned monochrome CRT monitor with :-D displayed on it, then rotates it 90 degrees clockwise.

VIXEN: <name> seductively pushes you to the ground, then flips you over and walks back and forth across your spine a few times. You feel relaxed and refreshed. You gain X hit points. You gain X Muscularity Points.

Expired Protocol: <name> beeps softly and says, "trial version of <protocol> Protocol has expired. Please enter registration key or upload another protocol."

I have NOT started working on the values of X for each.--R00k 06:29, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

For the CUPID one, I got a delevel of 6 attack and 1 defense, and 7 attack 4 defense with the familiar at 28 pounds. Also heals of 20HP, 27MP; 26HP, 31MP; 25HP, 28MP from VIXEN--Ataradan 06:35, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Protocol O.L.I.V.E.

There is also a drop named for this reindeer (not sure how to add citations, but reference link is here. It seems to be a rare drop, and is a phonetic pun. When all the other protocols are used at the same time, the reindeer goes into O.L.I.V.E. mode. Using an O.L.I.V.E. drop most likely sends the familiar directly into this mode without having to use the others. Olive, interestingly, sounds similar to "all of" when spoken aloud. All of, in this instance, referring to all of the protocols.--R00k 06:59, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

O.L.I.V.E. also refers to the line from Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer that says "All of the other reindeer", quite often pronounced in Jest as Olive the other Reindeer.--EvilBear 14:22, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

I believe there was also an animated Christmas movie called "olive, the other reindeer".--Qbr12 21:07, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

The O.L.I.V.E. Protocol likely refers to the book and animated short, which in turn are referencing the song. --Maramros 01:40, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Possibly Useful in the NS tower?

I have yet to defeat the NS this run thanks to Slime Tube distractions, so I will check this out, but I was wondering if while it is emulating any of the NS required familiars whether or not it can be used as such to pass those obstacles, so you only need to have one familiar and just the right protocols. Anyone check this out yet? --EvilBear 14:26, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

  • Seems very unlikely since none of the other Mr Store familiars that act like one of the NS required familiars will substitute. --RavenBlack 15:57, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
    • Actually, the Comma Chameleon can. Not that that's very useful. --Flargen 17:33, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Drop Mechanic

I've heard from friends using it that only protocols you don't currently have will drop. (Until you have all and it is random). Can anyone confirm? --Thagorn 14:32, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

I can confirm that I had 7 of the 10 protocols (all except Donner and Rudolph, or Olive), and I had a Blitzen protocol drop.--Foggy 14:39, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

I used 296 adventures with my Reindeer. I got 7 full sets (all but Olive) in that time. I don't recall if the order was the same each time. It gave me one of each until there was a full set and then started the next. I put all but one set in the mall. The last set I used while adventuring to activate O.L.I.V.E protocol for 10 turns. --Ragudantalus 21:51, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Actually it seems like it's a strict drop order: prancer-dasher-donner-vixen-cupid-dancer-comet-blitzen-rudolph which as told in the kol-forum (http://forums.kingdomofloathing.com/vb/showthread.php?t=185074&page=4) is logical (http://www.41051.com/xmaslyrics/rudolph.html) --Jubbo 14:47, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Arena Parameters

I have no idea where the published arena parameters came from, but they are wrong. Here are my results:

Robot Reindeer / 12 trials / 144 turns
ContestXP[1]XP[2]XP[3]
Cage Match304859
Scavenger Hunt254459
Obstacle Course294954
Hide and Seek285054

In other words, the maximum amount of XP for every single contest was gained by assuming the familiar is a "3" in that contest. This familiar is a 3/3/3/3.

Protocol Duration

From what I've seen, protocols last for 10 combat adventures starting from when you first use a disk. If you use a disk, fight 9 times, then use a second disk, your next combat will wipe all protocols. Has anyone experienced differently?--Fluxxdog 09:00, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

That's not what happened to me on the first day this came out at least...haven't used it recently, but I used one disk, then a few turns later used a second. I got the combat message about the protocol expiring, but he still acted on the second protocol I had added. I think each one lasts 10 combats.--Ataradan 16:28, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Something is Broken

This has occurred using the Robot Reindeer in Quantum Terrarium runs. I have not yet tested to see if it'll happen after defeating the sorceress (thus reinstating my own robot reindeer, and not someone else's), or if it's limited to Quantum Terrarium runs. It only happens with one or more protocols active, and has happened every time I've gotten a RR in a QT run and installed one or more protocols on them. %% may be the familiar trying to preform its usual function, or another protocol function, as I have never seen it preform more than one with multiple installed, and have gotten the %% message with only one protocol installed as well. %% on second action --Rick Tyger (talk) 18:03, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

  • Update: I have beaten the sorceress and am using my own in aftercore, using OLIVE protocol. Second message is still %% on first round. This would seem to be the Cupid protocol, as it will sometimes trigger on second or later rounds, with the proper message instead of "%%" and the same amount of deleveling as the first round message. --Rick Tyger (talk) 07:59, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
