Bow Tie Bat

The Bow Tie Bat is a type of summoned entity which Pastamancers can call upon in combat under certain conditions. By using a smoking talon a Pastamancer can establish a connection with a Bow Tie Bat.

Once connected, the Pastamancer can then summon it from the first round of combat after winning initiative. It will increase damage dealt by melee and spell attacks, and at level 5, it will cause passive damage through combat.

Combat Messages

  • When summoning it:
You call out to <name> with your mind, summoning his spirit even as you create a body for him. He lets loose an ear-splitting screech.
  • When Summoning it after it has reached Lvl. 5
You call out to <name> with your mind, summoning his spirit even as you create a body for him. He lets loose an ear-splitting screech.
As the horrible screeching continues to reverberate around the area, <name> flies up to your opponent and sinks his tiny, starchy fangs into its neck, causing it to bleed profusely.
  • Message after summoning when you have already summoned a Pastamancer combat ghost 7 or 8 times today:
Your brain feels tired.
  • Message after summoning when you have already summoned a Pastamancer combat ghost 9 times today:
You are mentally exhausted by the effort of summoning <name>.
  • Occasionally during combat:
The air continues to reverberate with echoes of <name>'s screech.
  • During Combat once it has reached Lvl. 5:
Blood flows freely from its gaping neck wound. Looks like it lost about X damage worth, there...
  • During Combat when it has reached Lvl. 10
<name> flies off into the distance, then flies past you carrying a yellow arrow. Weird.
OR
<name> flies off into the distance, then flies past you carrying dead duck. Or maybe it's a dragon. Weird.
OR
<name> flies off into the distance, then flies past you carrying a glimmering chalice. Weird.
OR
<name> flies off into the distance, then flies past you carrying a... bridge? Weird.
OR
<name> flits into your opponent's pocket, and fetches you an item.
  • When it levels up:
<name> looks stronger...

Name

Bow Tie Bat names follow a specific pattern - they consist of two sound-related words (Bark, Chitter, Fang, Flap, Ping, Scratch, Squeak, Swoop), the first one suffixed with "-ity" (and a doubled consonant if necessary). Some examples are "Barkity Chitter", "Flappity Scratch", "Scratchity Skritch", and "Skritchity Fang".

Notes

  • One of the Summonable Pastamancer Combat Entities.
  • The Bow Tie Bat will attempt to pickpocket for 3 rounds (round 2-4). It can steal on the round the monster is killed.
  • Although it will attempt to pickpocket for 3 rounds, it can only succeed once.

References

  • The level 10 messages reference the Adventure console game, in which a bat could carry objects around, including a sword (depicted as a yellow arrow), live or dead dragons (which resemble ducks), a chalice, and a bridge.
  • Prior to a trivial update on July 6, 2009, the Bow Tie Bat could successfully pickpocket multiple items in a single round.
