Shout Filter

The shout filter is a filter that prevents people posting in more than 40% capital letters and exclamation marks (!). Any message that contains more than 40% capital letters and exclamation marks will be re-posted as "[shouting]". Posting a "[shouting]" post following another "[shouting]" post will act as a repetition, even if the messages content is different. There is no way to turn the shout filter off, but it is disabled in clan chat.

Repetition Filter

The repetition filter will not allow you to type the exact same text into open chat more than once. It will result in a message coming back to you saying Repetition.. You may /msg a person the same text more than once, however it is likely they will ignore you unless this was a mistake.

Chat Effects

Certain items and effects will also affect what you say in chat:

  • If you are within 5 Drunkenness of your limit, sometimes your chat messages will end in "-hic-".
  • If you have been wanged, certain abbreviations ("thx", "u", "r", "ur", "k", "y" and "ppl") will be replaced by their non-abbreviated equivalents.
  • When you have Canadianity, "ou" in your messages will be replaced by "oo" (example: about will be changed to aboot), and sometimes an extra ", eh?" will be added to the end.
  • If you're feeling gothy, sometimes your message will be broken up to about 3 or 4 words per line, each line ending with one of "agony", "anguish", "blackness", "despair", "fear", "gloom", "heart", "loneliness", "miasma", "rain", "soul", and "torment".
  • If you have Jazz Hands, sometimes your messages will end with "~jazz hands~".
  • When Talking Like a Pirate, sometimes your messages will end with "Yarrr.", "Arrr.", "Avast ye!" or "Ahoy, Matey!".
  • While wielding a sword behind inappropriate prepositions, any prepositions in your chat will be replaced with inappropriate ones.
  • While wearing liar's pants, sometimes your messages will end with "No, really.", "Seriously.", "Trust Me.", or "Yeah, that's the ticket."
  • If you were infected by The Gray Plague, some of your messages would end with a "-cough-", which would become more frequent the longer you had the plague. After time, your messages would slowly fade to gray. Wearing rose-colored glasses would make your text appear as black again, but only to you, others would still see it as gray.

Of the chat effects that only sometimes fire ("-hic-", "eh?", etc), only one will fire on a single message. They can appear when the shoutfilter is activated.

  • chatbot (#142302) is a multipurpose bot who responds to chat, rolls dice in /games, announces the current song playing on Radio KoL in /radio, provides useful game information and plays games. For more information, private message chatbot with the message, "help".
  • Haiku Oracle (#464776) is a multipurpose bot used for strawberrying a player, telling a joke, flipping a coin, and answering yes or no questions Magic 8-Ball style. All of this is done both in haiku and in /haiku, coincidentally.
