Clancy does not level up like other familiars. He will encounter special adventures throughout the Kingdom that will serve to make him a better bard. In addition the Song of Accompaniment and More to Love skills will increase his level.
Attempting to equip Clancy with a familiar item, even a non-familiar-specific one such as a miniature gravy-covered maypole, results in the message "You don't equip that item on the familiar that you don't have with you. Maybe you should take one out of your terrarium."
