 You're fighting a coaltergeist

You peer into the coal bin. It's really dark in there. Black as...night, I suppose. Black as...the Black Market? I guess. If only there were some substance that were dark enough to describe the darkness you see within that coal bin.

Then there's a clank, and a clatter, and a poltergeist whirls all the coal in the coal bin into a vaguely humanoid, menacing form. Oh, right! Coal! That's how black the darkness was! How silly of me!
