Talk:Games Rules
ALl I have to say is... umm, why? --JRSiebz (☎|§|‡) 22:30, 14 April 2006 (CDT)
- i was thinking the exact same thing --Evilkolbot 08:17, 16 April 2006 (CDT)
- I am not really sure why either. I have seen on more than one occasion someone link to this or the antiraffle page while in the games channel, but personally I would dump this page and keep the antiraffle one as that one gets the most use. No other chat channel has its own rules page so this seems very out of place. --SomeStranger (Talk | Contribs) 08:57, 16 April 2006 (CDT)
- as a selection of suggested games and their rules from the games channel, does this have a place here? even if it did, it should have some kind of introduction and be groomed for style, perhaps being split into tables. --Evilkolbot 09:19, 16 April 2006 (CDT)
- This does have a place in the wiki because it has to do with KoL and is extremely useful for the members of /c games espeacially the new ones. The only reason /c games gets its own page is because it's completely different to all the channels. That's like saying there shouldn't be the command on chatbot "roll 1d10 in games" because there isn't a "roll 1d10" in other channels.--Cjhard 02:09, 9 April 2007 (CDT)
One thing I'd like to point out is that Jebdm09 put up a separate /games wiki a while ago and I've never understood why it didn't take off. Distant Lands Wiki Of course, it's kind of fallen out of use now, but he and I and a few other people still wrote a whole bunch of games in there. Plus it would solve this problem with whether it should be in this wiki at all (and I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be). --NoHassles 08:26, 9 April 2007 (CDT)
We're allowed to just add rules for games, right? Because I'm about to do so. --MrGuy
Can I add my variation of Chupacabra (the survivor ending)? you just vote the others off. simple, and effective! (rock paper scissors for last 2 survivors) --The ErosionSeeker 21:11, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Any old rubbish
- further to the comments above, shouldn't there be some sort of quality control on this page? the usual rule for non-KoL content is that it has had a wide-ranging and noticeable effect on the community as a whole. you can't just make stuff up and add it to the wiki. should that not apply to this page too? there's no guarantee that the games added here are even being played in the games channel. --Evilkolbot 08:07, 27 October 2007 (CDT)
- I don't see how this could be QCed without having one of the regular editors actually sitting in the channel for a week and seeing what's going on (and I'll happily waive the unofficial "person who comes up with the idea gets to implement it" rule here). It's nice to have a place for a listing of games (AR's popularity is noted in previous talk) and the no-no games are definitely a useful guideline of how not to tick off chatters. I'd say slap a disclaimer on the top of the page and then wash your hands of it. --Bagatelle 14:24, 27 October 2007 (CDT)
- ok, you got me. there must be someone here who doesn't find being in /games torturous, though. it's very popular, apparently. --Evilkolbot 14:29, 27 October 2007 (CDT)
- i actually find this page quite useful, although i believe there should be some sort of 'quality control' on entering games into this pages, or else every single game humans can play will appear in the wiki page, and it will be a nightmare to look through.

"game by ______", do we really need to pat ourselves on the back?
- I'm not liking the amount of self-aggrandizement on this page. Is it really necessary for every single game to have a "game by _____"? Furthermore, from a quick glance, most of these games have been around since the dawn of time (I used to frequent /games back in '05) and somehow people who have created accounts within the past few months are crediting themselves with these games. I'd like to remove all direct player references, as is the policy with every other page in the wiki (minus custom items).--SomeStranger (t|c) 11:07, 29 July 2008 (CDT)
- the answer to your question is a resounding no. well, from me anyway. i hate this page with a passion. any old dumbass nonsense can be put here and there's no quality control whatsoever. some no00b posts one message in /games getting no response and they feel that this gives them the right to post here. i say take it down altogether, it's just cruft. --Evilkolbot 13:24, 29 July 2008 (CDT)
- I agree with removing the player names. As far as EKB's concerns with regulating the page, maybe you could protect the page and people wanting to have games added could post on the talk page? We'd need an admin to actually pay attention to the talk page, though. And give a rat's ass. --Flargen 16:21, 29 July 2008 (CDT)
- the truly horrific thing would be that said mod would have to hang out in /games. although at least it's not /trade. *shudder* --Evilkolbot 16:32, 29 July 2008 (CDT)
- How feasible do you think it would be to just have a bot sit in /games and log everything? Perhaps even try to parse it to find game names, participation, and such. I'm guessing that part's much less likely, though. Having a log would save the trouble of having to actually sit in /games, and then when someone requests a game be added they can just search through the log to see how it checks out. It at least saves the horror of just generically sitting in /games, letting you only suffer through the necessary bits. Does such a bot already exist, perchance? --Flargen 16:42, 29 July 2008 (CDT)
- wouldn't be tricky to write nor server intensive. i could knock something unpretty up but it would be a .net form. would you be happy putting your password into compiled binary? also i've got bt broadband and the line goes down constantly, so i could't run it. perhaps this is a job for quietust. --Evilkolbot 16:52, 29 July 2008 (CDT)
- If one of you has the drive to monitor this stuff then more power to you. Regardless, I'm going to remove name references. I looked through again...someone actually took credit for "Who Wants To Be A/An (amount/name)-Aire". Yay!--SomeStranger (t|c) 17:50, 29 July 2008 (CDT)

"Adding Homework to the list of forbidden games."
I do not quite understand this edit, especially seeing as the page literally lists a game called Do <Name>'s Homework ("<Subject> Trivia") which seems indistinguishable from what has now been added as forbidden. It would be great if that inconsistency could be cleared up. Also a clarification regarding whether all non-KoL-related trivia games are banned now would be helpful. --Extremelywikidude (talk) 06:49, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
