The next thing you know, you're lying in the heap at the bottom of a tall building. You seem to remember some guy telling you something about an updraft that would blow you back onto the roof of the building if you jumped off.

What a jerk. Your legs really hurt.

• This is a reference to a fairly well-known joke, which usually goes something along the lines of:

A guy walks into a bar on the top floor of a building and sits down, when the man in the next seat over suddenly starts a conversation with, "Those updrafts are amazing, aren't they?"

"What updrafts?"

"If you jump off the roof, the updrafts get so strong by the time you reach the first floor that they'll blow you back onto the roof. I'll show you if you don't believe me." Then the man got up on the roof and jumped off. Sure enough, he fell partway down before flying back up and landing back on the roof.

So, after a little convincing and a lot of beers, the first guy decided to give it a try. He fell down, landed on the sidewalk, and broke his leg. The bartender, who had watched the entire thing, said to the second guy, "Boy, Superman, you sure are a mean drunk."
