Acid blob

From A KoL Wiki
acid blob You're fighting an acid blob

This is a creature that appears to be made of quivering, acidic goo. It leaves little etch-marks in the floor as it slides toward you, with the intent to leave big etch-marks in you.

Hit Message(s):

It etches you in the <face>. Sketchy. Eek! Ugh! Ooh! Eek!

It slides over and dissolves your <face>. Man, I hope that grows back. Eek! Ugh! Ouch! Ow! Ow!

Critical Hit Message:

It envelops your head and eats away most of your scalp. Hey, at least you won't have dandruff anymore! Eek! Oof!

Miss Message(s):

It tries to etch you, but can't seem to connect. Sketchy.

It starts to dissolve you, but you quickly put on a yarmulke and braid your hair. No acidic goo for Hasidic Jews, after all.

Fumble Message:

It tries to steamroll over you, but manages only to etch "NO KILL I" in the floor with its acid. How confusing. (FUMBLE!)

After Combat
You acquire an item: magic whistle (15.3% chance)*
You gain 14.5 <substat>.

Occurs in The Dungeons of Doom.

Notes

  • A successful attack with your weapon has a chance of corroding your weapon:
You are splashed by the acid blob's acid. Your weapon corrodes...
You acquire an effect: Corroded Weapon
(duration: 5 Adventures)
  • This monster appears statistically equivalent to the lowercase B.

References

  • The attack messages "It etches you..." and "It tries to etch you...", each followed by "Sketchy", are a reference to the children's toy Etch-A-Sketch.
  • As with everything else that occurs in the Dungeons of Doom, this is a reference to the computer game NetHack.
  • "NO KILL I" is a reference to the Star Trek episode "The Devil in the Dark", in which a blob like alien called a Horta secretes acid to write the words "NO KILL I."
  • It is also a reference to the fact that you can be protected from monster attacks in NetHack if you engrave the word "ELBERETH" on the ground where you're standing.
