This is a juvenile cuddlefish -- an offshoot of the cuttlefish family that has developed a genetic predisposition towards snuggling. Maybe the reason it loves cuddling so much is because it has three hearts. Or perhaps slightly less than three.

- Cuttlefish have three hearts. Two of them are used for pumping blood to the cuttlefish's pair of gills (one heart for each gill), and the third for pumping blood around the rest of the body. The description refers to this, another meaning of "heart" as "love and empathy", and the ASCII representation of a heart: <3 ("less than three").
