Cabin Fever

From A KoL Wiki

Cabin Fever
Cabin Fever

You find yourself back in the Great Overlook Lodge, and heave a tired sigh. How long have you been wandering around in this place? It seems like you've been down every corridor and through every room dozens of times.

How long has it been since you actually slept? Your eyes feel like you've been rubbing them with sandpaper, and you think something is threatening to hatch out of your skull. It's no wonder, what with the vanishing-point hallways and optical-illusion carpets.

You desperately want a cup of coffee. You desperately want a glass of bourbon. You desperately want to get out of this place.

A path is formed by laying one stone at a time.

You sigh again, and leave the hotel to rub some snow on your face. You can figure this out. You know you can. But can you do it before you totally lose your mind?

Burn this mother-goddamning hotel to the ground.

Unexpectedly, you wake up in your bed in the Great Overlook Lodge. You aren't sure what to make of this -- how much of what happened has been a dream? Your head still hurts, but you aren't sure if it's because of your earlier injury, or if you're just having a migraine.

You haul yourself out of bed and shuffle into the bathroom to brush your teeth. Blearily, you pick up your toothbrush and unscrew the top of the toothpaste tube, then proceed to squeeze the entire tube of toothpaste into the sink -- swirling it around in fascinating patterns of lines and globs, like a zen garden. You start to laugh, then catch sight of your reflection in the mirror. Angrily, you rear back and smash your head into the glass as hard as you can.

The caretaker's reflection is warped by a spiderweb of cracks in the mirror's surface, but there's no mistaking those wild eyes, that unshaven face, the giant, leering, manic grin. The two of you begin to laugh.

"Heeeere's Johnny!" you cackle madly, as blood trickles down from your forehead and into your eyes. "Heeeere's Johnny! Heeeere's Johnny!" You laugh some more. "Heeeeere's Johnny!"

And then, mercifully, the hotel explodes.

You wake up (again) in your campsite. You no longer have the faintest idea what is going on, and you are firmly resolved not to investigate any further or, indeed, to care.

Occurs at Twin Peak.

Notes

  • Choosing to continue the mystery consumes an adventure.
  • Choosing to burn the hotel lights the hilltop fire, but prevents you from obtaining the gold wedding ring.
