Category talk:Monsters With Unknown Parts
Is this really an appropriate category? "Unknown parts" is just "any part that isn't head/leg/wing/arm". Torso, eyestalk, camera, cuticle... I'm not exactly sure how useful the other four categories are, but this one seems super meaningless. --KingBobson (talk) 08:51, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- What if I told you that this was the category for monsters who haven't been spaded for parts yet.-Toffile (talk) 11:53, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- I do agree that it is for unspaded monster parts, but two additional points: 1) I think this category should also include monsters that don't have the tag on them at all, since almost every monster does not have it. 2) We should have a separate category for monsters with weird parts, such as those listed above, as if we made a category for each new part, we would have a ton of categories with 1 or 2 monsters in them. Maybe we could make something its own category if it's useful for something (such as the reanimator) or if there are a lot of monsters with it. — Cool12309 (talk) 14:04, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- Yes that is what it is for.
- Actually, it does list monsters that don't have the tag---not sure why it is so slow to fill in the category though...the job queue shows 0, but clearly not every monster that should be here is listed (but editing a missing monster's page results in them being added to the category)...I suspect part of continuing problems with the update queue.
- I wasn't sure how many different parts there are, so made it make separate categories for anything. A general weird parts category makes sense, and that could be done with an umbrella category, or with some simple changes to the {{PartsCat}} script. --Fig bucket (talk) 19:54, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- Oh yes, I forgot about that issue. Is there any way to purge them to update besides having a bot go through and click edit then save? (Isn't there an action=purge thing in mediawiki?). As for the parts, perhaps we leave it have their own category (but don't make the page) just to see how many there are, before we move it into the weird category. I'm not sure how we would handle new part types, as it would be sort of hard to tell how many there are now. Maybe only their own category if it's useful, and never otherwise, even if there are a lot of monsters with them. — Cool12309 (talk) 20:10, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- Yes that is what it is for.
- Oh, whoops. Yeah, that's a super useful category. Sorry! --KingBobson (talk) 21:47, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

This should cover most groupings. Fig, since you and I have done the bulk of this, how would you like to split it up?-Foggy (talk) 19:59, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- Burrow's done actually. My plan was to do Prof. Jacking, kill my remaining adventures in the sea, and then ascend and go through myst sign. --Fig bucket (talk) 22:44, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'm in myst sign and can get the parts for it (I've already done the once/ascension monsters though, and got all the factoids so I won't be returning). I also have 2 maps for the landscaper and unearthed monstrosities for their factoids, which I will do in my next two ascensions. Just letting you know so you don't waste your time/meat. — Cool12309 (talk) 22:48, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'll do a softcore KoLHS Moxie sign Accordion Thief run to hit KoLHS monsters, Thugnderdome, and the AT quest.-Foggy (talk) 14:02, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
- Just want to post a quick update, I didn't realize how tough getting small golems was. I just unlocked crafting parchment, at least it was the 23 one and not the 69 one. Getting enough leather and clay for a decent amount is going to take either a lot of work and turns or a lot of meat for tattering. I'll have to think about how to get these. — Cool12309 (talk) 02:27, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
- Turns out a pastamancer multi I have had leather as its quickly learned craft, so I'm using that to test out Pastamancer nemesis quest monsters.-Foggy (talk) 15:59, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

ultra-rares
cannon's depressor spading project is done but could it be revived? if this needs an equipment slot then I guess the answer is no. --Evilkolbot (talk) 05:53, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- It doesn't need an accessory slot...just a lot of small golems in inventory.-Foggy (talk) 06:05, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- I've PM'd him about it when he got that 2nd Nuge 2 days in a row, and he said "meh, someone who actually cares about that can do it". So yea. — Cool12309 (talk) 06:21, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- "a lot of"? does that mean you need to prolong combat? which means you might lose? i definitely want a ribbon, but i can see how this might be a difficult sell for anyone else. "do this useless thing for us, and give up that item worth tens of millions of meat, get a useless non-tradeable shiny instead." hmm. cannon thought the initial request was dumb so i guess we could ask. --Evilkolbot (talk) 11:35, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- Every small golem helps test 6 monsters total, so overall, someone just doing ultra-rares could really use just 2 to cover them all. The small golem does a lot of damage each round, so you end up winning the fight after 10 rounds. You do prolong the fight in the sense that's all you really do for damage, but it's certainly not a fight you likely lose. That having been said, this is a more "fill-in-the-blanks" project than anything else, and I can understand anyone's reluctance in participating.-13:20, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- At worst, you could try using !potion of enemy healing to try and prolong the fight. Probably not a good strategy, but more bang for buck. --The ErosionSeeker (talk) 21:41, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

extent
- I see that this is used (probably by default) for the spelunky monsters. I do not believe that it is possible to determine those parts. could we do what we do with the plurals, and have a value that points at the category:Monsters With Unknowable Parts? --Evilkolbot (talk) 12:25, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
- Ok, "!" not autocats to Category:Monsters With Unknowable Parts (capital "W" to be consistent with similar categories). --Fig bucket (talk) 15:33, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
- And (yay!) changing the autocat-ing to use the built-in string functions rather than foxway seems to make it actually work properly, finally. --Fig bucket (talk) 23:29, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
- Should we change the "parts=none" to "parts=."? I like using symbols to denote those things, as they quickly convey the message while lowering the chance of it being a problem (TPTB making a monster have a part of "none") to near zero (the chance they'd make "none" over "." is quite a bit higher). — Cool12309 (talk)
- Ok, "." should work now (as well as none, for now, until/if they reuse that). --Fig bucket (talk) 03:12, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
