- The dunce cap refers to the object of the same name in the computer game NetHack. There are two helmets represented by a blue [, namely the dunce cap and the cornuthaum. Each helmet is described as a "conical hat" until positively identified, making it difficult to judge which item you really have. The cornuthaum is a very useful item for wizards, whereas dunce caps will lower stats and become cursed when worn, making it difficult to take off again.
