You read the Crimboween Memo. It says: Interoffice Memo From: Uncle Crimbo To: All Adventurers of Loathing Re: Crimboween Adventurers, This is just to let you know that I've sent Linnea, the Scream Queen and rightful monarch of Halloween, on a little vacation this year. I thought she could use a rest, and I could use a change from making and delivering toys. Well, actually, this was one of the conditions of the elves' new contract, after their strike last year - that they be allowed to take a year off of making toys, and maybe try something new. So, y'know, if anything bad happens as a result of this, blame it on the elves and Rudolph the Red, that dang Communist reindeer. Yours merrily, Uncle Crimbo.

• On December 23, 2014, the plural of this item was fixed. It used to be "Crimboween memoes".

References

• Samhain is the old Pagan name for Halloween. It's the Irish word for November, the idea being that Samhain is All Hallows Eve, the night before All Hallows Day on November 1st.
• The Scream Queen is named after Linnea Quigley.
