Crouching Tiger, Hidden Demon
As you walk cautiously through the slums of Pandemonium, you pass a wild-eyed elderly man in a torn and stained gi, sitting on a tenement stoop. He sighs when he sees you. Then, when you take no notice, he clears his throat, sighs again more dramatically, and finally, says "Hey!"
"Yes?" you reply.
"I knew this day would come," he says, shaking his head sadly. "I vowed to take this terrible knowledge to my grave, in the hope that I would be the last disciple to be corrupted by its evil influence... but there will always be one who is driven to acquire power, who will go to any length to acquire it, even if it means a quest to the bowels of Hey Deze itself..."
"Are you talking to me, venerable stranger?"
"Of course! I can see that you are a practitioner of the Way of the Surprising Fist. You must have come here in search of my forbidden technique, the skill so evil that it condemned my soul!"
"Well, no. But now you've got me all curious. You were sent here just because of a martial arts technique?"
"Yes! A technique too evil for a mortal soul to bear!"
"Please excuse me," you say, "but I find it hard to believe that simply knowing a particular martial arts style would damn you..."
"Well, fine, it probably also had to do with all the people I killed. There were an awful lot of them. Whoo, a really astonishing number, now that I think about it. Hmmm." He strokes his long white beard in thought for a moment.
"On reflection," he says, "it probably wasn't just the technique. You want me to teach it to you?"
"Well, I'm sort of on my way somewhere..."
"That's all right, I've got it written down. Here you go." He pulls an ancient scroll out of his robe and hands it to you. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do," he says, with a wink.
