eerily silent box
This is a small box, perfectly cubical, and made of some smooth black wood. It has a simple hinge and no clasp. And no matter how hard you slam the lid, no matter how hard you knock on the side, no matter how you strum it, pluck it, blow in it or squeeze it, you can't get it to make any sound at all.

When Used
With at least one mime soul fragment after the beginning of the Silent Invasion, once only:

| You open the box. A mime soul fragment darts out of your sack and into it. It whirls around randomly for a few seconds, but eventually settles into a groove, a tight circle about an inch across. Its speed increases until it becomes impossible to tell whether it is a whirling soul, or a solid ring of mime-spirit. You realize that it doesn't actually matter and grab it. | ||

Otherwise, with at least one mime soul fragment, either after having received a soul monocle or before the Silent Invasion:

| You open the box. A mime soul fragment darts out of your sack and into the box. It presses against the edges for a while before getting bored and going back into your sack. Huh. |
Otherwise:

| You open the box. It continues to play the opposite of music. After a few seconds of this, you get bored and put it away. |
Notes
- One mime soul fragment is consumed when you get a soul monocle. The box is not consumed when you use it.
