You're fighting Fear ManYou enter Fear Man's chamber. Though it is indoors, it evokes a cemetery more than any real cemetery you've ever seen.
He emerges from inside a black mausoleum. Silent. That's probably the worst part, the silence.
No. The worst part is when he notices you.

He sprays the area with a thick black mist. You accidentally inhale some of it, and your brain fills with spiders. Eek! (spooky damage)
He clutches your <face> with his cold, clammy hand. Your entire body twists with revulsion. Ooh! (spooky damage)

You disappear into Fear Man's eyes. Argh! Ouch! Ow! Eek! Ooh! Ow! Oof! Argh! Eek! Argh! (all hp lost)

- This monster cannot be copied.
- Defeating Fear Man dispels Consumed by Fear.
- Fear Man's special attack is an instant kill after 4 rounds; if his gaze is not interrupted.
- Using Doubt Shackles results in "You try to put the power cell into the cannon, but you can't tear your eyes away from Fear Man's gaze and you end up sticking it in sideways. A few seconds later a deafening grinding noise blasts from the cannon as it chews up the cell. The noise distracts Fear Man and he breaks eye contact." This resets his gaze special attack.
- Fear Man's special attack is an instant kill after 4 rounds; if his gaze is not interrupted.
- Sometimes blocks spells with the message "You can't do that -- not without looking away. And you can't look away." Sometimes blocks combat item use with the message "You can't avert your eyes from Fear Man's gaze long enough to figure out where you keep that item."
