Fist of the White Citadel
Fist of the White Citadel

On the road to the White Citadel, you hear a commotion from over the next hill, and rush ahead to see what is happening. You discover two men -- one dressed as a cowboy, the other in the traditional garb of a practitioner of the Way of the Surprising Fist -- attempting to fight off a throng of bandits. The martial artist handles himself impeccably, dispatching opponents with grace and economy of movement, while the cowboy appears mainly to be shouting "Yee-haw!" and firing his gun wildly and ineffectually. You hurry forward to their aid, and soon the remaining bandits are groaning in the dust.

The martial artist turns to you and bows deeply. "I thank you for your aid, brother," he says. "I am Chon Wang, on a mission to rescue the daughter of my Emperor."

"Yah-hoo! I reckon!" adds the cowboy.

You return the bow. "No thanks are necessary; it was my honor to aid a fellow student of the Way of the Surprising Fist."

"Yah-hoo!"

"Who's your friend?" you add, puzzled.

"That is Roy. Through an unexpected confluence of events, we are forced to work together to achieve our separate goals." He sighs. "It is likely that, over the course of our adventures, we will become the best of friends. However, at this point in time, I have little to say in his defense."

"Yah! ...Hoo!"

"...Anyway, let me repay your kindness with this scroll, which contains some ancient teachings of our Path. I have already learned what I can from them, and it is my duty to pass them on to another practitioner." He hands you an old parchment scroll, then bows again, and the two of them climb onto their horses and ride off into the sunset.
