- Both the plural form of this item and the usage text "And my axe!" reference Gimli, a character in The Lord of the Rings (the former being his name, the latter being a much-parodied quote from Fellowship of the Ring).
- Gimlet is the name of both Gimli's counterpart in the parody Bored of the Rings, and a dwarf chef in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series of books.
