Lights Out in the Kitchen
Lights Out in the Kitchen

You step into the kitchen, keeping your eyes metaphorically peeled for flying potato peelers that will peel them for you literally. You've only gone a few steps toward the icebox, though, before a bell begins to toll the hour. It must be a huge bell, and you can't imagine where in the manor it might be hidden, but its reverberations shake the dust and cobwebs off the walls and rattle the pots and pans.

It rings twelve times, then decides to put in some overtime and gives forth one last sonorous, booming toll.

As it strikes thirteen, the lights go out in the kitchen, leaving you in almost total darkness, surrounded by ghosts and butchery implements. Hoo boy.

Refuse to Take the Heat

There's no way you're staying in a spooky haunted kitchen in the pitch-black darkness. You beat feet for the door before you get your feet beaten by beets, or some other poltergeist-thrown vegetable.

Light a Candle

You saw some candles on the counter, when you came in, and you manage to feel your way over to them and grab one. "Now I just need a match..." you muse to yourself.

"I've got a match," a voice whispers in your ear, making you too terrified to move, "your face and my butt! HAHAHAHAHAA!"

Oh, great, it's a witzergeist, one of those joke-telling ghosts. You groan as it regales you with bad pun after bad pun, until the lights finally come back on and you can leave.

Open the Icebox

You feel your way to the icebox and open it, hoping to use the light inside to get out of the kitchen without stumbling headfirst into the pot rack.

When you open the door, though, instead of the brilliantly lit demonic portal to hell you were expecting, there's just a bunch of old food lit by a tiny, weak light that barely illuminates the fridge.

You decide to just stand still and wait for the lights to come back on, which they eventually do.

Make a Snack

Only appears if you Inspect the Bathtub in Lights Out in the Bathroom

You fumble your way to the pantry and open the door. Your eyes have adjusted to the gloom enough that you can see a jar of peanut butter and a box of crackers sitting on one of the shelves. You brush the dust and cobwebs off them and make a few little peanut-butter sandwiches for yourself.

Before you can chow down, though, the lights flip back on and you jump back, because there's a skeleton standing in front of you! When you get your pulse back, you see it's wearing a tuxedo and carrying a silver platter.

"The young mistress requires a snack before bedtime," he says, holding out the tray. You put the crackers on the tray, and the skeleton clicks his heels and bows. "The young mistress will most likely require a story before bedtime," he says, "probably her favorite book, If You Give a Demon a Brownie."

With that, he turns on his heel and speeds away, buttling with skeletal efficiency.

Unlocks additional option in Lights Out in the Library.

Occurs at The Haunted Kitchen.
